A New Directive is a side quest in Control Resonant. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the A New Directive side mission.
- Starting Location: The Unknown Zone
- Requirement: Progress Sever the Hedron Links and Pope’s Research
- Reward: Untapped Whetstone artifact
- Quest Description: A strange caller has radioed me. I understand the individual words, but the way he strings them together makes no sense to me.

Starting Location: A New Directive
This quest is started automatically while progressing through the Unknown zone. When you either go to the northwest island or southwest island you will get an automatic radio call, which prompts the start of this mission.
Wait to Hear Back from the Mystery Caller
After the first call, when you go to the opposite island you will automatically receive a second call.
Locate the Mystery Caller
After receiving the second call, you need to go to the Field Office in Central.
In the eastern part of the area, go to the building labelled CAFETERIA.
Inside, interact with the person in the blue jumpsuit.
Question FBC Agents at the Field Office about Fred
After speaking with Fred, you need to speak with agents around the area to learn about what their deal is. First you can speak with Langston, who is on the east side of the search area.
Find Out What Fra Wants
Langston gives you some suggestions how to talk to Fred. Go back and speak with him, and choose the options: “You call Jesse ‘Roosa'” > “You’re looking for Jesse?”
Tell Langston What Fra Wants
Go back and speak with Langston to tell him what Fra said. You can respond to him however you want.
Go to the Real Director’s Office for Reference
Langston suggests going to the Director’s Office for reference on how to trap Fra. Go into the Oldest House and to the Director’s Office.
Inside inspect the desk to sketch a reference.
Furnish the Containment Unit
Back in the Field Office area, directly south of where Langston is located there is a container with a bunch of furniture outside.
Place the items so that there is:
- Two plastic chairs in front of the desk
- Sofa chair behind the desk
- Fan and Light on top of the desk
- Two traffic cones behind the desk
Get Fra into the Containment Unit
After placing all the items, go back up to the Cafeteria area and speak with Fra.
You need to go through the dialogue options until you have the “Is it a Portrait” option is available, and choose that one.
Get a Canvas for Fra’s Portrait
Fra wants a portrait of them as the Director. You need to go into the main Field Office building, and you can interact with one of the portraits of Jesse inside.
Paint Fra onto the Director’s Portrait
Go back into the Cafeteria building and interact with Fra again to change the portrait.
Hang the Portrait in Fred’s Office
Go back outside and into the container and interact with the back wall to place the portrait on the wall.
Get Fra into the Containment Unit
Now go back and speak with Fra in the Cafeteria.
Talk to Langston about Fred
After speaking with whoever that is, go back outside and speak with Langston.
Tell Zoe How Great Fred is
Go to the Watchtower in Central, and speak with Zoe and tell her how great Fred is.
Interact with the radio to the left of Zoe.
Trap Fra Mauro in the Containment Unit
After talking on the radio, head back to the Field Office area near Langston, and interact with the panel beside the door of the container to complete the side quest.
This finishes A New Directive side quest in Control Resonant.
