Tale’s Beginning is a main quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Tale’s Beginning main mission.

- Requirement: having completed Gaoled Awakening
- Reward: 700 G
- Quest Description: You have discovered your identity: you are the true Arisen. For proof, look no further than your pawn – the faithful servant whom you summoned from the riftstone. Your pawn’s companionship will doubtless be a source of comfort during the long and arduous journey that lies ahead.

Starting Location: Northern Vermont / Base of Mt. Alles / Ultramarine Waterfall
Follow Justinn
Follow Justinn who will lead the way to the nearest stronghold. On your way, defeat the goblins and when you reach the stronghold a cutscene will start. After the cutscene, the game will walk you through the Pawns, a loyal companion who will be by your side for the rest of your journey. You now have to create your Pawn, in a way akin to what you did at the start of the game for your Arisen character. You can either choose a preset or create one anew. If you’ve chosen a Mage for your Arisen’s Vocation, having a Fighter for close quarter combat for your Pawn would be best. As for the Pawn’s inclination, selecting Calm would be ideal, this gives the pawn a more defensive approach. Then the fighter acts as a tank to draw enemies’ attention while you can hang back and cast powerful magic to deal damage.
Once you’re done with the creation of your Pawn, finalize it to advance the story. After the following cutscene, you will also unlock Riftstones, a portal allowing you to hire pawns. These Pawns, however, will not level up while they are accompanying you, so you may find that you need to hire new support Pawns at regular intervals. Only your main pawn will level up alongside you.
Make for Melve
While speaking with Luksa, either choose to know more about yourself, the Pawns or the Riftstones or choose “Another time” to continue.
Make for the Lodgings
From the Riftstone, continue downhill and to the right towards the guard standing between two braziers. He will recommend spending the night at the outpost for some rest. Heed his counsel and go back up towards the main tent. Here, an innkeeper will offer you accommodation for the night for free. Inns are particularly useful in Dragon’s Dogma 2 as they fully restore your Health and Stamina, advance the time as well as save your progress. When ready, press “Rest”.
