This guide explains how to start the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expansion in Elden Ring. Before you can start the DLC you will need to have reached an endgame area in the main game called Mohgwyn Palace. You must also have defeated the bosses Starscourge Radahn & Shardbearer Mohg.
Step 1: First, make sure you have the Shadow of Erdtree DLC installed. It’s a separate download that costs money. Also download the game’s latest patch. If the DLC is installed correctly it will say “Shadow of the Erdtree” in the title screen in the bottom right corner.
Step 2: Go to Mohgwyn Palace > Cocoon of the Empyrean where you fought the boss “Shardbearer Mohg” (Mohg, Lord of Blood) in the main game. You must interact with the Withered Arm behind Mohg. This will teleport you to the Realm of Shadow area and starts the DLC. If you have been there before the easiest option is to open the “Sites of grace” menu from the map screen, it will be under Siofra River > Mohgwyn Palace. Also see How to Reach Mohgwyn Palace.
If you got the Platinum or 1000 Gamerscore in the main game you will automatically have this site of grace unlocked because Shardearer Mohg and Starscourge Radahn each gave a trophy.
If you have not fought them yet, you must do so first. They are well-hidden endgame bosses.

Good to know:
- You will need your old save. If you don’t have a save with the required game progress, you will need to replay the main game first.
- There is no way to jump straight into the DLC from the title screen. If you are just starting out with Elden Ring you won’t be able to access this until making enough progress.
- Level 150+ is recommended for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
- You can go back and forth to the DLC area at any time via the Sites of Grace menu in the map screen.
