Ghost of Yotei The Way of the Kusarigama Walkthrough

October 1, 2025 by PowerPyx Leave a Comment

The Way of the Kusarigama is a sensei tale in Ghost of Yotei. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Way of the Kusarigama side quest.

  • Chapter: Chapter 1 – The Lone Wolf
  • Region: Teshio Ridge
  • Quest Giver: Master Enomoto
  • Requirement: having reached Teshio Ridge as part of Main Tale: The Kitsune
  • Reward: Kusarigama (Melee Weapon)
  • Quest Info: There’s a kusarigama master on Owl Mountain. I should seek him out and see if he’ll teach me his technique.

Objectives:

  1. Defeat the Nine Tails
  2. Collect Kusarigama
  3. Cut Bamboo
  4. Destroy Bear Statue Vases
  5. Defeat the Nine Tails
  6. Proceed to the next Training Area
  7. Break the targets
  8. Break the targets with ferocious whirlwind

Starting Location: The Way of the Kusarigama

This starts in the north of Teshio Ridge region at Owl Mountain. You can do it anytime after reaching Teshio Ridge as part of Main Tale: The Kitsune. Go over the bridge to automatically talk to Master Enomoto, then follow him and clear out the enemies.

Defeat the Nine Tails

Walk with Master Enomoto, he will use his Kusarigama to stealth-takedown an enemy. Take out the remaining enemies in the area. You don’t have to stay in stealth, can rush in and kill them in open combat. When the last enemy is defeated you automatically get a short cutscene where you stand at an owl statue.

Collect Kusarigama

Interact with the wooden owl statue where you spawn after the cutscene to pick up the Kusarigama weapon.

Cut Bamboo

Follow Master Enomoto to the bamboo. Then use the Kusarigama to cut through the thin bamboo on the side. This leads to two bear statues that are holding vases.

Destroy Bear Statue Vases

Use heavy attacks with the Kusarigama ( :triangle: ) to destroy the vases being held by the bear statues. Then a rope appears behind the bears, walk over it. Follow the path and squeeze through the gate to find some enemies.

Defeat the Nine Tails

This fight acts as a tutorial for the Kusarigama weapon. It’s most effective against shielded enemies. Use heavy attacks ( :triangle: ) to break shields, then follow up with quick attacks ( :square: ) to deal damage. On enemies with Katanas you should switch to your Katana for more damage.

Proceed to the next Training Area

Follow Master Enomoto up the climbable mountain wall.

He will drop down a wooden ladder for you, then use the rockholds to climb up further. At the top go over a rope and jump to the left across the rock and platforms.

At the end you will climb up a ladder into a temple and will have a longer talk with Master Enomoto. There’s a dialogue choice but it doesn’t affect anything.

Break the targets

Follow Master Enomoto through the revolving door to go outside. There you must hold :triangle: to do heavy charged attacks on the 4 straw training dummies. Atsu will complain that it’s too cold and she’s losing her grip. After a few tries, Master Enomoto will climb the next rocks, follow him.

At the top you will reach his dojo and another 4 training dummies. Do charged heavy attacks on them again.

It will trigger a cutscene, then you need to enter the cold pool in front of you.

Break the targets with ferocious whirlwind

After you finish taking a bath, do a charged heavy attack on the training targets again. This time you will destroy them.

Afterward you have a short fight with Master Enomoto, hit him with a heavy attack and follow up with quick attacks.

After the next cutscene, follow him to the cliffside and press  to pull out your spyglass. Interact with the white smoke on the right side and the village on the left side.

You get one final cutscene, after which you properly unlock the Kusarigama and the quest is done.
