Introduction
Welcome to The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR Trophy Guide! An on-rails shooter similar to Rush of Blood, Switchback for PSVR2 will have you going through the four Dark Pictures games. In order to get Platinum, you will need to complete the game without dying, shoot all 12 Gargoyles, as well as save / kill / abandon all four passengers. This will require 3 playthroughs, but a playthrough will only take 3 hours.
Step 1: Complete the game on any difficulty without dying, shoot all Gargoyles, abandon all passengers
As there are no trophies tied to difficulty, you can play the game on Story Mode difficulty. While playing through, you will want to keep an eye out for Gargoyles to shoot, they will have the yellow targets like the bonus score items, and there will be 1 per level (plus 2 in the credits). You will need to complete the game without dying, which for the most part is quite easy, especially on the lowest difficulty, but you will have to be careful of a few areas where you can die instantly. If you do happen to die, you will have two more playthroughs to attempt this, but you can always quit out after each level and back up your save if you want to guarantee this (PS5 Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5) > Cloud Storage > Upload – if you die simply download this backup save from Cloud).
There are two miscellaneous trophies you can work towards during this playthrough, one is for getting a 10x combo, which is best done in either Level 7 – Into the Abyss or Level 10 – Frozen Hell, as well as obtaining all weapons from the weapon crates. There are 10 weapons total, and as long as you shoot the weapon boxes as you see them in each level you will get this without issue. Many of the weapons are either required for progression or will appear many times and are hard to miss.
Throughout the game there are four passengers that you will encounter, one per each Anthology. Across each playthrough you will need to abandon them all, kill them all and save them all. In the first playthrough it is recommended to abandon them as this is the easiest to do. Below is when you encounter the passengers and how to abandon them:
- Level 2 – Maiden Voyage: At the end of the level, this passenger will be in a box filling with water. To abandon him, simply shoot the locks on the door behind him to continue.
- Level 5 – Burning Trials: Halfway through the level there will be a passenger on a large pyre to your left. To abandon her, make sure the track is going right (shoot the switch if it is going left) to skip past the area
- Level 7 – Into the Abyss: Near the end of the level, there will be a passenger in a cage below a burning crane. To abandon her, shoot the correct symbols with your flare gun on the first rotation. If you don’t do it on first rotation, she will die instead.
- Level 9 – Panopticon: Near the end of the level, there will be a passenger against a back wall with 3 blades, and 5 blockades you will need to clear by shooting the correct fuse box. To abandon him, shoot the fuse boxes that lead towards the passenger to clear 2 of the 3 blades, then clear the blockades quickly before he is killed by the third blade.
In the last level, you will have a timer during the final boss fight. If you defeat the boss before the timer runs out, when you reach the credits make sure to shoot at least 70% of the floating text. When you reach the credit roll at the end, let them play out. At the end of the credits you will get a message required for A Moment of Hope
.
For Gargoyles refer to Switchback VR – All Gargoyle Locations.
Step 2: Complete the game again, kill all passengers, run out of time against Belial in the final fight
This time you will want to complete the game again, killing the passengers and running out of time against Belial in the last chapter. By running out of time in this fight and shooting 70% of the text during the initial credits section, you will get a message from Belial at the end of the credits required for Eternal Damnation
. If you failed to complete the game without dying, you can attempt it again here. If you missed any weapons or didn’t get a 10x combo, you can try them again.
In order to kill the passengers, do the following:
- Level 2 – Maiden Voyage: At the end of the level, this passenger will be in a box filling with water. To kill him, simply do nothing until the box fills up completely.
- Level 5 – Burning Trials: Halfway through the level there will be a passenger on a large pyre to your left. To kill her, use the UV Light on the mannequins holding the torches and shoot them to burn her.
- Level 7 – Into the Abyss: Near the end of the level, there will be a passenger in a cage below a burning crane. To kill her, either shoot the top of the crane with the flare gun without breaking the supports below, or do loops around the area until it burns.
- Level 9 – Panopticon: Near the end of the level, there will be a passenger against a back wall with 3 blades, and 5 blockades you will need to clear by shooting the correct fuse box. To kill him, simply wait until he gets killed by the blades, then continue through the blockades.
Step 3: Play through to Level 9 and save all passengers
If you have done everything else by this point then you should only need to save all the passengers. You won’t have to do a full playthrough for this, as the trophy will pop after saving the last passenger in Level 9.
In order to save the passengers, do the following:
- Level 2 – Maiden Voyage: At the end of the level, this passenger will be in a box filling with water. To save him, shoot the levers to fill them all simultaneously to turn off the flames.
- Level 5 – Burning Trials: Halfway through the level there will be a passenger on a large pyre to your left. To save her, use the UV Light on the mannequins holding the ropes and shoot them to free her.
- Level 7 – Into the Abyss: Near the end of the level, there will be a passenger in a cage below a burning crane. To save her, shoot the supports below the cage with the flare gun, then shoot the top of the crane to free her.
- Level 9 – Panopticon: Near the end of the level, there will be a passenger against a back wall with 3 blades, and 5 blockades you will need to clear by shooting the correct fuse box. To save him, shoot the fuse boxes that lead towards the passenger to clear all 3 blades, then clear all the blockades.

Death to all Gargoyles Destroy all marked gargoyles |
|
| There are 12 Gargoyles in the game, 1 per level and 2 in the credits. They appear as large statues with yellow targets on them, similar to bonus targets. Once you shoot one they will count across all playthroughs and not appear again, even on a new playthrough. | ||

The Collector Pick up all the weapons at least once |
|
Throughout the game, you will find crates that you can shoot to temporarily acquire a different weapon. These crates will have an image of the weapon on them to indicate what you will receive. Many of these weapons will either be frequent throughout the game, or will be required to progress the game. The one exception to this is the Grenade Launcher, as this only appears once. Fortunately it appears early into Level 2: Maiden Voyage, and is directly on your path so it is very hard to miss.

Gunslinger Reach multiplier 10 |
|
| The game features a multiplier system where shooting objects and enemies within a short time frame will increase. All enemies and regular objects will fill it slowly, but they will mostly be used to stop your multiplier from dropping down a level. The main way to increase the multiplier to higher levels is by shooting the bonus objects, which will have yellow targets on them. These are all over the game, particularly off to the side or not in your direct view, so make sure to look around for them all the time.
You will often find yourself going long stretches where you are unable to shoot anything (especially when the game decides to slow down), so you may find yourself losing multipliers without anything you can do about it. When there aren’t many objects around, you can extend your multiplier a bit by not shooting them all immediately, but instead only shooting when your multiplier is about to go down to refresh the timer. The best levels to earn a multiplier of 10 are either Level 7: Into the Abyss or Level 10: Frozen Hell. Frozen Hell is particularly good for it, because once you receive Belial’s Gun, you can spam this around the area as it has an area-of-effect attack, so can destroy many objects rapidly. However in order to get a 10x multiplier on this level you will need to go down the right path, which requires you having previously gone down the left path for that split in Level 8: Enjoy your Stay, |

God Mode Finish the game without getting killed |
|
In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to complete all 10 levels in one playthrough without dying. This is best done on Story Mode difficulty, as enemies will be a lot weaker. There are still several points in the game where you can die instantly if you make a mistake, particularly in spots where there are traps. Below are some of the points to be aware of for potential instakills.
If you think you are going to die, you can either quit out of the level or restart checkpoint and continue that way. You can also choose to back up your save file in the event you do die, as that way you won’t have to do this on a fresh playthrough. Ultimately this isn’t too difficult though, and if you do it on the easiest difficulty, you should get it without much hassle while doing the playthroughs for the passenger trophies. |

A Moment of Hope Unlock the last message after the credits |
|
| In Level 10: Frozen Hell, you will fight the final boss, Belial. During the final section of this fight, you will have a timer that begins at 2 minutes, with an extra 15 seconds added on for each passenger you saved in that playthrough.
In order to unlock the message in the credits, you will need to defeat Belial with time still on the clock to survive the nightmare. Once you finish the level, you will ride through the credits where you can shoot the floating credits. You will need to shoot at least 70% of these floating credits in order to trigger the message. At the end you will have a credit roll which you can speed up or skip. Make sure not to skip it, as when the credit roll finishes, you should hear a final message and unlock this trophy. If you didn’t shoot enough of the credits for this to trigger, or if you want to do Eternal Damnation |

Unfortunately I doubt it as Rush of Blood never did.

There is a bug with Saving all survivors, did this on my first play through. And it didn’t pop. A bummer, so I have to play 4 times now.
Archavia says
On the result screens at the end of each Anthology, did it ever show any of the survivors as abandoned / killed? I noticed that leaving an area too quickly after saving one still counted as abandoning. For instance the third passenger, she came out of cage and started floating away as I finished the loop around the area and continued forward but it still counted as abanodoned.

Hi,
I accidentally saved the last passenger in chapter 9 in my abandonment run. Can i use chapter select and start from chapter 9?
Additionally, can the tutorial be skipped in subsequent runs using chapter select to save some time?
Thanks for this guide and the one for Call of the Mountain, by the way. Please keep on writing VR guides! :=)

If you restart level after death can you still earn the god mode trophy? Thanks

Just a note – a lot of people including myself unfortunately are unable to obtain a last message or eternal damnation due to a glitch. Once the game is beaten and *spoiler* you are been dragged from the train by the fireman the game freezes and kicks you out. If you try to continue it brings you to the section at the end of the game showing you have a score of 0 on the leaderboard and keeps crashing and bringing you on a loop. I tried pausing and restarting the final level after selecting continue ride from the main menu..Completed it again and game crashes at the same section. Sooo frustrating as these are my final 2 trophies. Even went through the bonus section after beating the game to watch the credits..shot all the text and still no message right after completing.. Not trying a 3rd playthrough for this to happen.. If you intend to go for platinum I would wait for this to be patched. Just informing inc ase you need to update your guide
