Godborn is a New Game+ exclusive mode and the highest difficulty in the game. Similar to Reborn you can select it when starting a new playthrough. It offers a unique challenge to the game, as well as exclusive rewards for beating the game on Godborn. Thankfully, you can still select which actual difficulty you want to select any choose Godborn, so you can complete it on Casual, or even Safety.
How to Unlock Godborn Difficulty
To unlock Godborn, you’ll need to beat the Superboss Satan.
Satan is a fight that is exclusive to the Canon of Vengeance path. You’ll first need to do a couple steps in order to fight him:
- Play through the Canon of Creation path (don’t take the girl’s hand at the start) and get the True Ending. You can follow the Endings Guide to make sure you get this.
- After getting the ending, create a ‘Clear Save Data’ at the end of the game, then load it and start New Game+ on the Canon of Vengeance path (do take the girl’s hand at the start).
- Once you reach the Empyrean, you can go to Da’at: Shinjuku and accept the Subquest “The Serpent King“, and then complete it.
- If you did all the above steps, you should now be able to accept the Subquest “The Great Adversary” from the same spot, which will give you access to the Satan fight.
Now that you have the ability to fight Satan, you can refer to the SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI V: Vengeance – Superboss Guide for the best build and method to defeat him. After defeating Satan you will get access to Godborn difficulty as a reward.
What is different on Godborn Difficulty?
Godborn adds and changes a few things with the base game that is really useful to know before you get into it.
- The level cap will be raised to 150 once you defeat Satan and purchase the miracle Moral Transcendence for 999 Glory.
- All enemies in Godborn, including regular enemies and bosses, will have their level raised to 150 (they deal more damage and take less damage).
- You’ll be able to purchase incense, balms, and sutra’s from Gustave for Macca, which can be extremely useful for increasing the stats of demons, but it can be extremely expensive.
- You’ll be able to sell excess Glory to Gustave for Macca. Every 1000 Glory will be 500,000 Macca.
Godborn Rewards
You’ll also get some unique rewards for that can only be gotten on Godborn, as compared to completing the game regularly.
- Once you unlock the ability to fuse Demons, visit the World of Shadows to unlock Lucifer’s fusion, as well as the Devil Talisman.
- You’ll also earn the trophy
The Will of the Godborn for clearing the game on Godborn.

Just noticed you mentioned that godborn can be completed on safety difficulty so how does that work exactly do you start godborn then switch to safety or is it something else entirely

When you start NG+ you get 2 selections. How you want to start NG+, & then your difficulty. When starting NG+, it’ll ask you to select Newborn (Start the game from level 1), Reborn (Start the game carrying over everything), & Godborn (Same as Reborn, but with some new additions & everything being level 150). After selecting that, the game will then ask you to select your difficulty, so you can select Godborn, & then Safety

Just a heads up but you DON’T need to do a Canon of Creation True Neutral Ending run in order to get the quest to fight the super boss to unlock Godborn. I did my first run on Canon of Vengeance and was able to get the quest to face that super boss and unlock Godborn without ever doing CoC.

Can u elaborate on this? I’m on vengance and at near end game I have tao with me as her goddess form, is it a quest in the building itself? After getting all 3 keys?
