Control Resonant has 11 Dylan’s Sketchbook Locations. Completing all instances of the Sketchbook unlocks the Work-Life Balance trophy & achievement.
They get marked on the map as secrets with a question mark icon (“?”) when you go near them. At their location, inspect the “eye” icon with L1/LB. Then several puzzle pieces get marked on the minimap, they are always nearby. Pick these up and place them in the correct order at the sketch site. Then inspect the site again, if you placed the items correctly Dylan will draw a picture in his journal.
You can keep track of which Sketchbooks you found under Archives > Collectibles > Dylan’s Sketchbook (only available after completing at least 1 of them). Nothing is missable, you can still find everything after the story in free-roam.
Most of them can’t be reached until you have unlocked all traversal abilities from the Jesse Sightings quests: Jesse Sightings: The Incursion Fault > Jesse Sightings: The Subway Fault > Jesse Sightings: The Underpass Fault. You will do all of these automatically during the story, they allow you to use gravity shift and use grappling points in the environment. It’s best to clean up the drawings after the story, as you’ll be missing the traversal abilities during the first visit to the areas.
Dylan’s Sketchbook #1 – Beach Day (Downtown)
Downtown: In the north-east of Downtown zone, where the white text “Lookout Point” is on the map. There you find a construction site. In the corner of the construction site is a blue tarp on the ground. Inspect the “eye” icon on it. Then go behind the “A New You Awaits” sign to find a beach umbrella and a beach chair at the end of the alley (they will have puzzle icons on the minimap). Place them on blue tarp as shown below (chairs next to each other facing forward, umbrella behind chairs). Then you inspect with L1/LB to draw the sketchbook entry.
Dylan’s Sketchbook #2 – Rooftop Oasis (Downtown)
Downtown: In the north-west corner of Downtown, on the rooftop where the “Dense Patterning” text is on the map. Must use the “Reach” ability to get up there, unlocked from Jesse Sightings: The Subway Fault. Inspect the table on the roof, then 6 items get marked with puzzle pieces on the minimap. Place the 3 swans closest to the table (the spots without stones on the ground), and place the 3 plants furthest from the table (the spots that do have stones on the ground).
Dylan’s Sketchbook #3 – The Cat Picnic (Central)
Central: In the eastern half of Central zone, inspect the Cat Picnic tarp in the corner of a yard at a blue house. After inspecting it, 3 items will be marked with puzzle pieces on the minimap. Place them as shown below (basket from left, black cat back right, ginger cat back middle).
Dylan’s Sketchbook #4 – Live on Stage (Central)
Central: In the south-west corner of Central, from the street level you can enter the door to an apartment building (behind a black FBC vehicle).
Inside the apartment building go up the first staircase and enter the first door on the left. In this apartment inspect the music instruments. Then 5 items get marked with puzzle icons in the apartment, place them as shown below (blue guitar left, keyboard middle, drum in right corner, brown guitar on right side, microphone on mic stand).
Dylan’s Sketchbook #5 – Halloween Party (West Incursion Zone)
West Incursion Zone: Directly after going through West Incursion Zone Checkpoint, you find this on the rooftops ahead of you. Must use the “Reach” ability to get up there, unlocked from Jesse Sightings: The Subway Fault. On the rooftop you find a halloween party table, After inspecting it, 4 items will be marked with puzzle pieces on the minimap. Place them as shown below (small pumpkin front left, ghost back left, big pumpkins back right, skeleton front right).
Dylan’s Sketchbook #6 – Dream House (Evacuation Zone)
Evacuation Zone: In the north of Evacuation Zone, on the rooftop of the Railyard Street Station building. Go up the staircase inside the mold infested building to reach the rooftop. There you find an unfinished playhouse. Inspect it and the 6 pieces will get marked with puzzle icons on the minimap (all on same roof). Place them as shown in the image below. Pay particular attention to the roof piece and the front wall being different colors/textures.
Dylan’s Sketchbook #7 – Robotics (Evacuation Zone)
Evacuation Zone: In the south-west corner of Evacuation Zone, you find this inside a building. You can enter the building through the door at the end of the alley at street level, or through the door on the roof. Inspect the vending machine to reveal 5 puzzle pieces on the map. You must connect the 4 pipes to the machine and the “head” on top, as shown in the image below.
Dylan’s Sketchbook #8 – The Dragon and the Knight Sketch (The Park)
The Park: In the north-west of The Park area, underground inside the Park Valley Station (subway station). You enter the station from the street slightly south-east of the sketch location. At the end of the station inspect the mold that looks like a dragon. Then 6 objects get marked on the minimap, place them as shown below (2 tools in the mouth, 2 benches on the sides, 2 cones on the back).
Dylan’s Sketchbook #9 – Space Adventure (Underpass)
Underpass: From the “Research Site” area you must jump to this island to find this at the top. Inspect the moon landing site to get 6 objects marked on the minimap. The antenna goes on the yellow “X” on the floor, the alien figurine goes on the wooden box on the side, the boy in white clothes goes on the lowest podium, the person in brown clothes goes on the tallest podium, the US flag goes on the middle podium.
Dylan’s Sketchbook #10 – Art Exhibition (The Unknown)
The Unknown: From the street enter the door to the art gallery (if enemies are present, you must defeat them to unblock the door). Do note that this area has an “upper” and “lower” gravity version, if you are at the sketch marker and it’s not the entrance to the art gallery, you must use shift and drop down 180° to the opposite level of the map. Once inside the gallery, inspect the empty pedestals and 4 objects will appear on the minimap. The bowl goes on the left, the toilet 2nd from left, the laptop 3rd from left (turns into a star once placed), the vaccuum on the right (turns into golf set when placed).
Dylan’s Sketchbook #11 – Game Night (The Unknown)
The Unknown: On the south-east island of The Unknown region, inside a building under construction, on the bottom floor. To reach this island you must do Side Quest: Pope’s Research, it creates Gravity Wells that let you travel through the area. Inspect the board game table, then 6 objects get marked on the minimap. 3 figurines are in the same room where the puzzle starts, place them on the middle of the table in any order. The other 3 objects are outside: 1 candle in the supermarket across the street (left shelf from where you enter), 1 pizza in the pizzeria across the street, 1 mannequin in the laundromat (must use shift ability on the road). The candle goes on the left of the table, the pizza on the right corner, the mannequin on the right.
After completing all 11 Sketchbooks you will earn the Work-Life Balance trophy & achievement.
