Introduction

Welcome to the Mortal Shell 2 Trophy Guide! Mortal Shell 2 is a direct sequel to the first Mortal Shell, taking place an unspecified time in the future after the first game’s ending. The game includes largely the same mechanics as the first game, but with double the number of Shells and weapons, in a significantly larger game world.

Trophy-wise, it’s your typical soulslike list, but without the ‘No Shell’ requirement that the first game had. Instead you will need to play through the game up to at least NG++ specifically to obtain Glimpses used to unlock Shell Memories, as these can’t be farmed like the first game. The rest of the trophy list is largely composed of the “Collectibles”: unlocking all Shells, Weapons, and Tarstones, along with a handful of miscellaneous requirements and completing certain side NPC interactions.

Note About Glitched Trophies and Day One Patch

Currently with the day one patch all trophies can be obtained, but there are a couple of known issues that can cause problems and prevent you from earning two trophies.

Currently known issues:

  • trophy Stoned – Unlock all Tarstones: There is a Tarstone located in the area “Temple of Vatra” in the north part of the map. If you don’t collect this Tarstone before leaving the area for the first time, then you are locked out of the area and can’t obtain it. as the game closes gates leading into this area. The game currently doesn’t reset these gates in NG+, so you can’t get back into this area even in new playthrough.
  • trophy Seeking the Past – Unlock all Shell Memories: The Shell Sester Genessa has its Bond Level increased by speaking with a character in the same spot they normally stand in Marrow Keep. This functions correctly in first playthrough, but when you enter NG+ she stops functioning correctly and gets stuck trying to complete the parrying tutorial, which means you cannot upgrade Genessa’s Shell Bond. You should fully upgrade her Bond in first playthrough to avoid this issue currently.

Step 1: Complete the Story, Defeat all Main Bosses, Find all Collectibles

Your first step will be to complete the game, defeating each of the main bosses and collect everything required for trophies. You can earn all trophies except the one for viewing Shell Memories in your first playthrough. You can do the first 6 main bosses through the Corrupt Gates in whichever order you like. The intended order is to complete the northern part of the map first, then the southern part of the map, but once you gain the ability to fast travel and clear corruption by siphoning 7 Ova in Marrow Keep you can effectively go in any order. Once you have defeated at least 5 of the 6 main bosses you gain access to the final area of the game through a stairway in the Ova room in Marrow Keep, which means you can fight the final boss without fully clearing all of the main overworld areas.

Make sure to earn the three missable trophies during this step:

  • 2 missables are in the very first section of the game: trophy Mid Summer, trophy No, You Still Can’t Win. These also can’t be earned in New Game+ anymore, because NG+ starts you back in Marrow Keep and skips the tutorial section.
  • 1 missable trophy Peter’s Perfect Parry is for fighting the main boss in the Prisoner’s Domain area and you can attempt this again in NG+ if you missed. It’s still highly recommended you make sure you complete this on your first playthrough because the bosses get harder in NG+. You can leave this boss until the end of the playthrough if you want to be leveled up as much as possible.

Step 2: Cleanup before entering New Game+

Once you defeat the final boss, you are put back in Marrow Keep and can continue in your current playthrough. Clean up anything you may have missed. Once you are ready to continue to NG+, you interact with the Ova Siphon in Marrow Keep to trigger the ending of the game and progress to the next playthrough.

Step 3: New Game+ and New Game++ to unlock Shell Memories

For the next two playthroughs, your main goal is collecting Glimpses to unlock the remaining Shell Memories for trophy Seeking the Past. There are 8 Shells with 5 Memories each = 40 Shell Memories total. Increasing the Bond Level of a shell to the maximum requires 27 Glimpses, which means to increase all 8 Shells to maximum you need a total of 216 Glimpses.

Glimpses are primarily from defeating bosses and clearing Beacons, so you will want to clear each of the main bosses and all Beacons again. You are required to play until at least partway through NG++ to obtain enough Glimpses. Per playthrough you can get enough to fully level up 3 Shells.

Peter’s Perfect Parry
Perfect Guard each one of The Nameless Captive’s headspins using the Untarnished Seal
MISSABLE

This trophy is awarded for perfectly parrying every attack done by the main boss “The Nameless Captive” while using the Untarnished Seal. This boss is the main boss located in The Prisoner’s Domain overworld area.

This is a boss that is designed around parrying, so its attacks are very heavily telegraphed and consistent. Note that it does still do unblockable attacks that you can dodge like normal, but then you need to parry every other normal attack that it does that isn’t unblockable. Because you can fight the main overworld bosses in any order you are able to leave this until the end of the game when you are upgraded as much as you can be, which can make the fight go faster.

The boss starts out primarily doing 4 swing combos or a downward head slam which aren’t too hard to parry against, along with the unblockable attacks. The main tougher part starts once you get the boss to half health and it will automatically stun, allowing you a riposte attack. After this, it will immediately do a very quick spinning move where it attempts to hit you 7 times in a row. You want to stand directly in front of it and parry all attacks in a row, which should stun it again and allow another riposte attack. After this it will return to doing the previous attacks, though sometimes it will do a slightly slower version of the same 7 spins in a row which you can parry the same way.

If at any point you miss a parry during the fight, you can quit to the main menu and then continue the game and you will be back at the Beacon before the boss. You should practice getting to the fast spin attack at least a handful of times first though, then attempt to do the full fight once you have practiced parrying that attack.

Decked Out
Reach the maximum bonding tier for a Shell at the Shellkeeper
This trophy is obtained by increasing bond level on any Shell to the maximum of tier 4 for the first time. This requires a total of 27 Glimpses to be spend the bond menu per Shell.
Over 9000
Max out a Weapon at the Tarforge
This trophy is awarded for increasing the level of any weapon to maximum for the first time. Weapons are upgraded using Coin and upgrade materials, which can be found throughout the game. You can obtain an item that allows you to remove materials from upgraded weapons, so you don’t need to worry about wasting materials by trying out weapons, only Coin which you can obtain more of by killing enemies.

There are technically two max levels for a weapon. Initially, you can only upgrade a weapon to +16, which will unlock this trophy. In the final Beacon of the game you can obtain an item which allows the Tarforge to increase weapon level to +17 and above, but this isn’t required for this trophy.

Upgrade costs for all weapons and sidearms seem to be the same, regardless of which you are doing this with, so you can work on upgrading your favorite main weapon to +16.

Total item cost to reach +16:

  • 57,000 Coin
  • 32 Ventrium
  • 31 Laterite
  • 31 Dorsalite
Feed Me
Cause Egon to pass away
This trophy is awarded for interacting with the character Egon, and giving him enough Gloom that he passes away. You’ll gain back double the amount of Gloom that you gave (up to a certain limit). This can be found southwest of the Castigator’s Keep Beacon, in the tower in the center of the castle area. You can give them whatever amount of Gloom that you want, but once you have given them a cumulative total of at least 10,000, the next time you interact with him, he’ll pass away, giving you back double the Gloom and awarding the trophy.

So Fresh, So Clean

No, You Still Can’t Win
Take the Tar Golem to his Minimum Health
MISSABLE

This trophy is awarded for reducing the final tutorial boss “Tar Golem” to 0 health. This boss works like typical soulslike tutorial boss where you are intended to lose against it, and reducing it to 0 health will cause this to happen immediately regardless of your own current health. You only fight the Tar Golem once during a playthrough during the tutorial section, you don’t fight it again during New Game+, so you need to earn this trophy at the start of your playthrough. You can make a backup save beforehand (PS+ Cloud) to reload if needed, and if you feel you start doing poorly during the fight you can pause and quit to main menu, which will put you right before the Bone Gate when you reload the game.

The Tar Golem is a relatively slow enemy, and you can reduce its health to zero by mostly taking it slow and chipping away at it. It will end the fight eventually if you take too long though, so you need to still actively keep attacking. The main thing to watch for are the big unblockable attacks, like when it jumps into the air and tries to smash the ground where you are standing. Always pay attention if it’s doing this attack, if you get hit by it directly it can instantly end the fight. The normal attacks you should aim to parry whenever possible, because you can get a large amount of damage into the boss if you stagger it and then perform a Riposte attack.

If you are struggling you can slightly reduce the damage you take by defeating the miniboss Tainted Vestige which is in the area just before the Disciple’s Grotto Beacon. Defeating it drops a Burnt Effigy which when equipped in your passive item slot reduces the Fire damage you receive, which is what the Tar Golem primarily does.

Sat Nav
Find all Map Fragments
This trophy is awarded for obtaining all 11 Map Fragments, which allow you to see the full overworld map. These are all marked from the start of the game with a crow symbol, corresponding to the location where Ruk is perched on top of a statue, with the Map Fragment in front of him.

Seeking the Past
Watch all Shell Memories
This trophy is awarded for watching all 40 Shell Memories. There are 8 Shells with 5 Memories each (=40 total). Memories are unlocked by increasing the Bond Level of Shells by spending Glimpses at the Shellkeeper, with all Memories being available at Tier 4.

Increasing the Bond Level of a shell to max requires 27 Glimpses, which means to increase all 8 Shells to maximum you need a total of 216 Glimpses. In one playthrough you can obtain enough to level 3 Shells to maximum if you don’t use any to mark the locations of Shells, which you should avoid as you don’t need to do this to unlock them in the first place. Because of this you will need to play through to at least NG++ (third playthrough) to be able to obtain enough for all 8 Shells. During your second and third playthrough be sure to cleanse all Beacons again and pick up the handful of Glimpses that are sitting near Beacons, as this is how you obtain the vast majority of them.

Discover the secret of the Mango
This trophy is awarded for finding the Mango, which is a secret item returning from the first game. To do this, you first need to find the item “Mether’s Flesh”, located in the Sanguine Caverns area. From the first Beacon Pulsing Caves, drop down the hole to progress, and at the very bottom instead of leaving the cave, turn around where there is some exploding bodies blocking an area. Past them there is a chest, and to the right of the chest is a pillar where the Mether’s Flesh item is sitting.

Now go to the Outskirts of Nochte Beacon, and in the cave that the river runs through you can find a cup in front of a large fish sitting in the water. Interact with it and use the Mether’s Flesh item.

You will be transported into a Dungeon called Mango Sanctuary, where you can interact with the giant mango in the area to obtain a consumable Mango, unlocking the trophy.

This is Not an Achievement
Complete Mortal Shell II
Story-related, cannot be missed.

This trophy is awarded when you trigger the ending of the game and move into NG+ after defeating the final boss. You do this by interacting with the Ova Siphon in Marrow Keep and choosing the “Send Ova” option. You can continue playing in your current playthrough until deciding to do this.

Bag Holder
You’ve mastered nothing and this is your reward. Pretty pointless, eh?
This trophy is awarded for completing the interaction chain with the character Baghead, which triggers a joke ending for the game. They can be found southwest of Gloomshade Grove Beacon, through the Bone Gates that lead to an area called Desolate Peak.

Speak with them a couple of times, and they will prompt you to sit on the ground nearby with the other NPCs. After sitting down once, speak with them again and continue responding Yes to their questions, and they will ask you to bring them something. There are items you can pick up around the area, but you don’t want to give them any of them. Sit down once more, then after sitting speak with them again and continue answering Yes to trigger the joke ending scene. You can skip the credits if you want, then reload your save to be back at the nearby Beacon.

Does skipping the prologue from the open beta save file pop those trophies or lock you out of them?
