Pokemon Sword & Shield Steelix Location

November 16, 2019 by PowerPyx 16 Comments

Galar Dex: #179 Steelix
Abilities: Rock Head (1) | Sturdy (2) | Sheer Force (H)
Type: Steel / Ground
EXP Group: MediumFast
Egg Group: Mineral
Hatch Cycles: 25
Height: 09.20 m, Weight: 400.0 kg, Color: Gray
Evolution: Onix > Steelix (trade Onix while holding Metal Coat evolution item to evolve)
Characteristics: It is said that if an Onix lives for over 100 years, its composition changes to become diamond-like. It is thought its body transformed as a result of iron accumulating internally from swallowing soil.

Steelix Location in Pokemon Sword & Shield: You can find Steelix in the following locations:

  • Evolves from Onix. You give the “Metal Coat” evolution item to Onix and then trade it to evolve it to Steelix. You find “Metal Coat” in Stow-on-Side town (after Route 6), on the left side where you can climb up a building with a guy sitting at the edge.
  • Giant’s Seat
    • OVERWORLD – All Weather (Level 50) – a Steelix can be encountered near the bridge
  • It doesn’t officially list any habitats in the Pokedex, but it does show up by the bridge in Giant’s Seat (Wild Area) as described above
  • Can also wander around Giant’s Mirror during All Weather (rare encounter).

Steelix Stats:

  • HP: 75
  • Attack: 85
  • Defense: 200
  • Special Attack: 55
  • Special Defense: 65
  • Speed: 30
  • Total Combat Points: 510

I found a lv50 steelix around giant’s seat overworld, near the bridge in Pokemon sword near the beginning of the game.

Note this fight might be 1 time only because steelix is said to have no habitat on the pokedex, i cant find a way to reset the overworld encouters and i found other pokemon at around lv50 that wont suppose to found in this big green field location that are also arnt reappring.

      This is interesting indeed.
Did anybody else here get that encounter? I think it might be one time encounter indeed, or could be ultra rare spawn. Officially it doesn’t list a habitat (like you said).

Yes I just came across Steelix at the bridge in the 1st open world location where the raid dungeons are, on the map it’s at the bottom right corner bridge, it’s encounter lvl for me was 58, so I could only battle it not catch it

Do you remember the weather and if it was overworld or underworld? Shield or Sword?
And after catching it does yours show any habitat at all?

I got the metal coat but I can only give it to onix to hold. I can’t figure out how to use it to make him evolve.

Onix has to be traded while holding the metal coat to evolve

So you have to trade him while he is holding the coat.
