Pokemon Sword & Shield Metal Coat Location

December 1, 2019 by PowerPyx 2 Comments

The Metal Coat in Pokemon Sword & Shield is used to evolve Onix to Steelix. This guide shows where to find the Metal Coat Location in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Metal Coat Location:

  • You find “Metal Coat” in Stow-on-Side, the town where the 4th Gym Stadium is. From the Pokemon Center in Stow-on-Side, head to the left. Before going up the stairs that lead to the Stadium, go further left all the way to the edge of the town. There’s a tight alleyway that leads to a ladder behind a building. Climb up the ladder and you’ll see a man sitting on the edge of the roof. Next to him is a sparkling item, pick it up to find the Metal Coat!

  • Bronzor and Bronzong also have a 5% Chance of holding this item when you catch them. So you can farm Metal Coats infinitely by catching these Pokemon over and over again,

Metal Coat Usage:

The only use of Metal Coat is to evolve Onix to Steelix. You must equip Onix with the Metal Coat and then trade it to another player (locally or via internet). This triggers the evolution immediately, but make sure to trade it to a friend who will trade it back to you afterward. It’s one of the more secret evolutions in the game.

That’s all there is to finding the secret Metal Coat in Pokemon Sword and Shield, enjoy!

You also need a Metal Coat for Scyther to get Scizor to complete the Isle of Armor Pokedex.
