This guide shows where to find all 400 Pokemon Locations in Pokemon Sword & Shield, ordered by Pokedex numbers. While most Pokemon have identical spawns across both versions ‘Sword’ and ‘Shield’, there are some that are exclusive to one version or the other. Some Pokemon appear in both games but have slightly different locations. This will all be pointed out on the respective Pokemon page.
You can still free roam after the story so nothing is missable. The Pokemon pages also include the max stats. The more combat points a Pokemon has, the stronger it is, which are the ones you’ll want to get for battle.
Pokemon Sword & Shield introduces some new features that were not in previous games. Here are the different ways you can catch Pokemon and what you should know before starting:
- Weather affects Pokemon spawns! They will only show up under specific weather conditions.
- Overworld Pokemon = The ones you see physically walking around from afar. You can tell what Pokemon it is before even fighting it, they are easy to spot.
- Non-Overworld Pokemon = Randomly appearing Pokemon when you walk through grass. They are only revealed when you start fighting them (you can tell by them having a black outline at the start of combat). This is how it worked in old Pokemon games.
- Some of the stronger Pokemon can only be caught in Max Raids, which you can start at the red beams in the Wild Area (just south of Motostoke city).
- And some come from hatching eggs.
- Sword Exclusive Catchables: Nuleaf, Seedot, Swirlix, Scraggy, Sawk, Rufflet, Solrock, Gothita, Braviary, Jangmo-o, Hakamo-o, Deino, Hitmonlee
- Shield Exclusive Catchables: Lombre, Lotad, Spritzee, Croagunk, Throh, Vullaby, Lunatone, Solosis, Mandibuzz, Larvitar, Goomy, Hitmonchan
Below are links to each Pokemon, spawn locations, required weather conditions and spawn rate.

The Crown of Tundra Pokemon Locations will be added at a later time after that expansion becomes available.
Tyler says
Great guide! Definitely the best and easiest to follow that I’ve found. Thanks!
Alex Drescher says
Are you going to do one of these for the isle of armour and the tundra dlc?
PowerPyx says
I’m currently looking into the DLC, yes 🙂
I’ll try to have locations for the new Pokemon soon.
PowerPyx says
Confirming these have been added now. Still in the process of adding the last few and the Isle of Armor list will be complete in 1-2 days.
Curtis Lau says
Thank you
Ados says
This is, by far, the most useful site I’ve found for SwSh info. Specific locations, overworld or not, chances to find and proper weather… Even the “major” sites (Bulbapedia, Serebii, etc.) don’t have all this information, and what they do have is not nearly as easy to locate.
Thanks for your work.
twitch.tv/fi5hii says
Where is the crown tundra now?
Paige says
It’s included in the dlc pack and is south of your hometown
Spooky says
Thank you for the guide homie, really appreciate your work.
Nikki_boagreis says
Thank’s for the guide PowerPyx, i’d suggest Nexomon and Nexomon Extinction as well. They have gameplay like Pokemon, they ported Nexomon and Nexomon Extinction waiting to see if the port MicroMon or release a new title in the series.
Dylan says
Thanks for the guide. Just a question about catching all 400 to receive the Shiny Charm. How can you catch all 400 if the starters aren’t available in the wild?
Automated says
Well, since you’re playing on switch, you can download Pokémon HOME for free. Afterwards, go through the process of linking your game and you’ll receive all three starters as a mystery gift on the mobile version of Pokémon home. Then, just transfer them into your Pokémon Sword or Shield game, and they will automatically register to your Pokédex.
