Pokemon Sword & Shield Tart Apple Location

November 20, 2019 by PowerPyx 16 Comments

The Tart Apple in Pokemon Sword & Shield is used to evolve Applin to Frapple. It is exclusive to Pokemon Sword (you won’t receive it in Shield Edition). This guide shows where to find the Tart Apple Location in Pokemon Sword. Shield Players get a Sweet Apple instead.

Tart Apple Location (Sword Exclusive):

  • You find “Tart Apple” in Hammerlocke. By the exit from Hammerlocke to Route 6 you can see a blonde boy standing by a wooden drawbridge (far left side of Hammerlocke town). Talk to him and he’ll ask “Have you heard the rumor?”, to which you must reply “I haven’t”. Then he’ll ask you to hand him an Applin. This means you must first catch an Applin Pokemon (Applin Locations). Give him the Pokemon, he’ll show it to his girlfriend, and give you the Tart Apple as a reward. He only gives you Tart Apple in Sword edition. Shield Players get a Sweet Apple instead.

Tart Apple Usage:

The only use of Tart Apple is to evolve Applin to Flapple. You must give Applin this item to trigger the evolution. It’s one of the more secret evolutions in the game.

That’s all there is to finding the secret Tart Apple in Pokemon Sword and Shield, enjoy!

I did this in Shield, was given a Sweet Apple. Are Tart apples exclusive to Sword?

Did it in Shield, also got a sweet apple. Maybe Flapple is exclusive to Sword and Appleton to Shield; Not sure though.

    Thanks for the comments guys!
It indeed seems to be a Sword Exclusive. I’ll see if I can find it anywhere in Shield.

Flapple is exclusive to Sword and Appletun is exclusive to Shield. However, I just got a Tart Apple (in Sword) by picking up an item by the tree on the Axew’s Eye island in the Wild Area. (This was after defeating the storyline, though, so it won’t be quick!) So talking to this NPC is not the only way to get one!
