The Ancient Forest region in Monster Hunter World Iceborne has 10 Treasure Locations. This guide shows where to find all of them.
How Treasure Hunting Works
Each region has a total of 10 treasures. In order to start hunting treasures you will have to reach Unity Level 6 with the grimalkyne faction in the region you want to search for treasures (Bugtrappers for Ancient Forest, Protectors for Wildspire Waste, Troupers for Coral Highlands, Plunderers for Rotten Vale, Gajalaka for Elder’s Recess, Boaboa for Hoarfrost Reach).
To start leveling a faction you will first have to earn their trust by finishing their side quests, which also unlock a certain Palico Gadget from each of them. Use this guide for information on how to unlock all the Palico Gadgets: Palico Gadgets Guide.
Once you have a gadget unlocked in a region you can now use the help of a faction on a hunt. You can either just search for a grimalkyne on the map and it will join you on your hunt or you can use the new gadget “Tailraider Signal” you can unlock in Hoarfrost Reach which lets you call a tailraider like a taxi (highly recommended). Be careful though: you can only call a tailraider when you play solo, since it takes 1 of the 4 spots on your hunting party.
Once a faction reaches level 6 you will be able to perform pawswap with them in their lairs (marked on your map and also has a quick travel button). You can now trade them items for treasure tips. A grimalkyne will show their interest in your item by their movement. They can be non-interested and will turn their heads away, be curious or neutral about it, or go totally crazy for your item, jumping around, dancing around, basically begging you for it. That’s what you are looking for. Always give your items to the grimalkyne which wants it the most, or one of them since multiple can have the same reaction.
They enjoy stuff like potions, meat, traps, etc. Try giving them basically anything you have in your box, they might like it. They can drop the hints pretty fast sometimes and other times you will have to travel back and forward between regions a lot for a single hint, since you can only give them 3 items during a single visit. Only after you get the hint you can find the treasure. Some treasures have one or two hints before you can dig up the actual treasure.
This particular guide covers the treasures locations in the Ancient Forest.
Tip: In the bottom left corner of the second screenshot of each treasure, you can view the exact map location. The area number (as seen on map) will be mentioned in the text below, just head to the area and check the minimap to align it with the screenshot. The 2nd screenshot also shows the exact spot to stand in for the treasure.
The first treasure in Ancient Forest can be found in the northern part of Area 5.
Can be found in Area 6 in the spot where some monsters tend to go for a nap (like Pukei Pukei or Velkhana).
Hidden in area 4 at the tree which you can use to trap large monsters.
A multi-part treasure. First head to area 6 and use the roots with a blue mushroom on it to reach the higher section of the area. There you will find the next hint near some wall paintings.
The second hint will lead you to area 7 into the spiral-like cave. Find the area with flash bugs and there will be the treasure.
The first part of this treasure is located in area 2 on a root. This area is where you can usually find the Great Jagras.
The second hint will lead you to area 9, the place with Paratoads on the uphill-battle place. There on the edge of the higher cliffs, the treasure can be found.
First part is hidden in the hollow tree in area 8. The area where you can usually find Yian Garuga.
The treasure itself is hidden in the tunnels of area 10 between some bones.
First part is hidden in a mushroom pile very close to the area 11 camp. You can mark the mushroom on your map for the bugs to lead you there.
Not far from the first hint you can find the real treasure being the bee-hive also in area 11. Just as before use your map to mark it for the bugs leading you.
First hint is hidden in a pile of dung at the bottom of area 13.
For the second hint use a bomb to blow up the dam at the top of area 16 (the place where monsters like Rathalos or Kushala go for a nap). Once the dam is gone check the back of the area you just unlocked.
The treasure itself is hidden in a cave behind the waterfall in area 11. The cave itself is located basically just under the number 11 on your map.
From the top of area 16 take the slope down and halfway down the slope will be your first hint.
The second hint will be a bit south of the place where you found the treasure number 8. You will have to drop to the area in the picture from the ledge above it.
And the treasure itself will be located to the west of camp 1. The hint was very helpful for this one…. at first, but it was true indeed. It really is a place nobody ever goes to.
For the first hint mark the only huge vigorwasp on the map (area 13) and have the bugs lead you there.
The second one is at the mushrooms in the tunnel between area 11 and 12.
The treasure itself, the final one for Ancient Forest, can be found on the top of the boulder in area 12.
That’s all of the treasures in Ancient Forest Region of Monster Hunter World Iceborne. For all other regions refer to the full Monster Hunter World Iceborne Treasure Guide.
