The Elder’s Recess region in Monster Hunter World Iceborne has 10 Treasure Locations. This guide shows where to find all of them.
How Treasure Hunting Works
Each region has a total of 10 treasures. In order to start hunting treasures you will have to reach Unity Level 6 with the grimalkyne faction in the region you want to search for treasures (Bugtrappers for Ancient Forest, Protectors for Wildspire Waste, Troupers for Coral Highlands, Plunderers for Rotten Vale, Gajalaka for Elder’s Recess, Boaboa for Hoarfrost Reach).
To start leveling a faction you will first have to earn their trust by finishing their side quests, which also unlock a certain Palico Gadget from each of them. Use this guide for information on how to unlock all the Palico Gadgets: Palico Gadgets Guide.
Once you have a gadget unlocked in a region you can now use the help of a faction on a hunt. You can either just search for a grimalkyne on the map and it will join you on your hunt or you can use the new gadget “Tailraider Signal” you can unlock in Hoarfrost Reach which lets you call a tailraider like a taxi (highly recommended). Be careful though: you can only call a tailraider when you play solo, since it takes 1 of the 4 spots on your hunting party.
Once a faction reaches level 6 you will be able to perform pawswap with them in their lairs (marked on your map and also has a quick travel button). You can now trade them items for treasure tips. A grimalkyne will show their interest in your item by their movement. They can be non-interested and will turn their heads away, be curious or neutral about it, or go totally crazy for your item, jumping around, dancing around, basically begging you for it. That’s what you are looking for. Always give your items to the grimalkyne which wants it the most, or one of them since multiple can have the same reaction.
They enjoy stuff like potions, meat, traps, etc. Try giving them basically anything you have in your box, they might like it. They can drop the hints pretty fast sometimes and other times you will have to travel back and forward between regions a lot for a single hint, since you can only give them 3 items during a single visit. Only after you get the hint you can find the treasure. Some treasures have one or two hints before you can dig up the actual treasure.
This particular guide will cover the treasures in the Elder’s Recess.
Tip: In the bottom left corner of the second screenshot of each treasure, you can view the exact map location. The area number (as seen on map) will be mentioned in the text below, just head to the area and check the minimap to align it with the screenshot. The 2nd screenshot also shows the exact spot to stand in for the treasure.
From camp 1 head south and head towards the place you only visited when first entering Elder’s Recess during the main story. Normally you wouldn’t head there again.
Hidden in the south corner of area 5.
This treasure can be found in area 6. This is the place where Uragaan takes his naps.
First part can be found just next to camp 8. From camp 8 take the small crawlspace outside and simply drop down the vines to find it.
The treasure itself will be in area 3. This is the arena-like place where you have fought against Kushala Daora, Velkhana and some more. Also this is the place where Bazelgeuse naps.
Southwest corner of area 10 is the easiest way to describe it.
Take the path north and then check the south edge or area 11 for the treasure spot.
The first hint will take you to the east side of area 4.
The treasure itself can be found at the crossroads in area 2.
Check the red crystals in area 3 for the next hint.
The very top of this region, area 4 on the platform in the middle where Kushala Daora naps.
First hint will lead you to the north edge or area 9.
And the west wall of area 14 will have the treasure itself.
The first hint will basically take you to the border or area 11 and 7.
From there head south to the southwest corner or area 11 for the next hint.
The treasure itself can be found at the south edge of area 7.
From the Gajalaka lair take the path north and once you enter area 15 you can find the next hint at the bonepile there.
Next hint will be hidden in the southwest corner of area 12.
And the final Elder’s Recess Treasure Location, can be found in the Gajalaka lair itself in area 16. Check the beehive there.
