There are 84 Chest Locations in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Resynced. They are not needed for any trophies & achievements and only give extra money. This guide covers specifically the chests that are tracked as “Chests” in the collectible tracker when scrolling over locations on the map.
Regular Chests are not to be confused with Secrets (Special Chests), Underwater Shipwreck Treasure Chests, and Buried Chests:
Chests (covered in this guide) have a smaller white chest icon and only give money. They count as “Chests” on the map’s collectible tracker. There’s no map filter ( 
on map) for regular chests.
Secrets / Special Chests (covered in Secrets Guide) have a bigger chest icon and give items instead of money. They count as “Secrets” on the map’s collectible tracker. On the map filter they are titled as “Special Chests”.
Underwater Shipwreck Treasure Chests (covered in Shipwreck Guide) are found exclusively in Underwater Shipwrecks and also have the same icon as Special Chests.
Buried Chests (covered in Treasure Guide) don’t have an icon at all, they are the unmarked chests you dig up from Treasure Maps.- There are also some Underwater Chests that don’t count toward the collectible tracker at all.
Basically, the game has lots of types of chests. This guide focuses specifically on the first type that is strictly classified as a “Chest” in the map’s collectible tracker and only gives money. The “Special Chests” look practically the same when you open them, the key difference is normal chests give money and Special Chests (Secrets) give items. For the other types of chests refer to their respective guides linked above.
You can still find everything after the story in free-roam, nothing is missable.

Head through the path leading into Anotto Cove until you come to your first intersection. Take the path to the left and then take your first left. In that hall a shark will charge you. Evade it and get the chest that was behind the shark.

Head through the path leading into Anotto Cove until you can’t go straight anymore in the underwater mines. Take the left and then an immediate right. Look out for a bubble stream and a ladder. Swim up here to find this chest.
