There are 2 different Maps (Caribbean, Princípe) and 12 total regions: Dry Tortuga, Eleuthera, Gibara, Punta Guarico, Cruz, Castillo de Jagua, Conttoyor, Chinchorro, Serranilla, Charlotte, Navassa, Princípe.
The total map size of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Resynced is 234km² (15.3km height x 15.3km width) but it’s mostly water.
The islands you can explore on foot make up a much smaller portion and only cover a few square kilometers total (approximately less than 10km² of actually explorable area on foot). The vast majority of the big islands aren’t explorable at all, only certain sections can be reached. Compared to the most recent modern day Assassin’s Creed games there’s much less ground to cover.
You unfog the sea map by conquering Forts and unfog the land map by syncing Viewpoints.
