There are 5 recruitable Officers in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Resynced (2026 Remake). Recruiting all Officers unlocks All Hands On Deck trophy & achievement.
The 2 Quartermasters are automatic story unlocks. The other 3 come from doing their questlines. Lucy and Padre are available after “Sequence 04 – Mission 01: This Old Cove”, their quests will be marked on the map. Tobias can only be recruited after “Sequence 11 – Mission 03: …Everything Is Permitted”.
The 3 Officers from the questlines unlock powerful abilities for your ship. Especially in preparation for the Legendary Ships they make a huge difference. Lucy unlocks Perfect Brace (negate incoming damage), Padre unlocks Ram-Dash (deals massive Ram damage), Tobias shoots an extra salvo of cannonballs whenever you use the broadside cannons. You can still recruit them after the story.
From Lucy and Padre you don’t need to finish their entire questline, only the part up until recruiting them. However, once you recruit Tobias their remaining quests will disappear. While their remaining quests aren’t needed for anything, if you want to experience them for the backstory you should fully finish these before recruiting Padre.
Collectibles Overview:
Officer 1: Adéwalé (1st Quartermaster)
- Effect: None
- Recruitment Requirement: Automatically recruited from Sequence 03 – Mission 01: This Tyro Captain. He gets replaced later by Anne Bonny as Quartermaster in Sequence 12 of the story.
Officer 2: Lucy Baldwin (Shipwright)
- Effect: Brace just as an attack hits to greatly reduce damage to the Jackdaw.
- Recruitment Requirement: Finish Lucy’s first two Officer Quests “A Proper Shipwright” & “The One With the Gun”. The rest of her questline isn’t needed.
Officer Quest: A Proper Shipwright
Available after Sequence 04 – Mission 01: This Old Cove, then press 
on map to select it from Officer Quests – Location: 446, 620 at “Salt Key Bank”.
Officer Quest: The One With the Gun
Available after “Officer Quest: A Proper Shipwright” – Location: 818, 445 at “Great Inagua” –> Lucy is recruited halfway through this quest.
Officer 3: The Padre (Master-at-Arms)
- Effect: A strong fighter during boarding or fort battles. The Jackdaw can now Ram-Dash (L1+R1 / LB+RB).
- Recruitment Requirement: Finish Padre’s first two Officer Quests “A Second Chance” & “Loyalty, Discipline, and Courage”. The rest of his questline isn’t needed.
Officer Quest: A Second Chance
Available after Sequence 04 – Mission 01: This Old Cove, then press on map to select it from Officer Quests – Location: 446, 620 at “Caracol”.
Officer Quest: Loyalty, Discipline, and Courage
Available after “Officer Quest: A Second Chance” – Location: 648, 348 at “Cumberland Bay” –> Padre is recruited after completing this quest.
Officer 4: Anne Bonny (2nd Quartermaster)
- Effect: None
- Recruitment Requirement: Automatically recruited at the start of Sequence 12 – Mission 01: A Governor No Longer.
Officer 5: Tobias “Deadman” Smith (Master Gunner)
- Effect: Broadside cannons now fire an extra salvo, dramatically increasing firepower.
- Recruitment Requirement: Finish the first 4 quests of “A World Without Gold” questline after Sequence 11 – Mission 03: Everything Is Permitted.
A World Without Gold: That Bastard Maynard
Available after Sequence 11 – Mission 03: Everything Is Permitted, then press on map to select “A World Without Gold” questline – Location: 818, 446 at “Great Inagua”.
A World Without Gold: Not Even a Real Captain
Available after “That Bastard Maynard” – Location: 616, 154 at “Kingston”.
A World Without Gold: What the Devil!
Available after “Not Even a Real Captain” – Location: 728, 705 near “Cat Island”.
A World Without Gold: It’s a Start
Available after “What the Devil!” and recruiting Lucy Baldwin & The Padre (“Officer Quest: The One With the Gun” & “Officer Quest: Loyalty, Discipline, and Courage”) – Location: 825, 444 at “Great Inagua” –> Tobias is recruited after completing this quest.
