Sand and Circuses is a side quest in Final Fantasy 7 (VII) Rebirth. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Sand and Circuses Side Mission (Odd Job). It’s also known as Mayor Kapono’s Request. It requires you to win five bouts at the Beast Battleground.
Sand and Circuses becomes available at the Dustbowl Community Noticeboard in the Corel Region after completing the “Trouble in Paradise” Side Quest.

Area: The Dustbowl – Beast Battleground (available from The Dustbowl Community Noticeboard)
Quest Giver: Gus’s Party Guest
Requirement: Available after completing the “Trouble in Paradise” Side Quest
Reward: Way of the Fist Vol. VI (10 Tifa SP), Tifa Relationship Strengthened, 10 Party EXP, Player EXP (scaled to your level)
Mission Info: Everyone’s favorite dustbowl asshole is throwing a “party,” and there’s a “prize” up for grabs that I need to win. So I joined the festivities – several times – but just couldn’t hack it. “We’ll meet again” – that’s what she tried to tell me, but I guess it’s you I hope I’ll meet again first, merc. Come and find me, please.
Objectives:
- Join Gus’s Party
- Party Hard with Yuffie
- Party Hard with Aerith
- Party Hard with Barret
- Party Hard with Tifa
- Party Hard with Cloud
Starting Location: Sand and Circuses (Mayor Kapono’s Request)
You can accept the Odd Job from the Community Noticeboard in The Dustbowl (Corel Prison), or you can go directly to the quest giver by the ladder to Beast Battleground.
Join Gus’s Party
Head down the ladder and speak with the gatekeeper to join the competition. You will have to do five one-on-one bouts with each of the human party members.
Party Hard with Yuffie
Complete Gus’s Party: The Ninja vs. Winged Ones. This fight will be against against two Valron, make sure to exploit their elemental weakness by using Ice Ninjutsu and this shouldn’t pose a problem.
Party Hard with Aerith
Complete Gus’s Party: The Flower Seller vs. Fireballs. This fight will be against two Bombs. Attack them when they’re breathing fire to stagger them easily and stay healed up when they’re low health in case they self destruct.
Party Hard with Barret
Complete Gus’s Party: The Gunner vs. Wind Sages. This fight will be against two Zemzelett. Use damaging abilities when they use Wingbeat to pressure them. If you want you can link Elemental-Ice in your weapon to exploit their weakness.
Party Hard with Tifa
Complete Gus’s Party: The Pugilist vs. The Undertaker. This fight will be against a Modded Sweeper. Focus your attacks on its arms to destroy them and prevent it from using certain attacks. If you want you can link Elemental-Lightning in your weapon to exploit its weakness.
Party Hard with Cloud
Complete Gus’s Party: The Merc vs. Bloodstained Jester. This fight will be against a Joker. Evade whenever it does the Soul Sucker attack to pressure it, allowing you to stagger it easily. It will stay pressured when it goes berserk at low health. It has an attack that can put you on 1 HP, so be ready to heal up if this happens. If you want you can link Elemental-Wind in your weapon to exploit its weakness.
