Final Fantasy 7 VII Rebirth contains 4 Pirate’s Treasure Locations. In Chapter 12 you will find the Pirate King’s Treasure Chest on the docks of Costa del Sol, it unlocks the Pirate’s Treasure Map. This starts a treasure hunt that requires finding all 4 Pirate King’s Grottos. They are found on small islands in Meridian Ocean.
Finding all of them is needed to transmute “Corsair’s Compass”, an accessory that is mandatory for some Legendary Bouts (VR Missions), which become available after defeating Gilgamesh in Chapter 13 (found as part of the last Protorelic). Beating all VR Missions is needed for the Virtually Renowned trophy, hence all Pirate’s Treasures are needed too as a prerequisite.
Pirate King’s Treasure Map
At the start of Chapter 12 when you dock the Tiny Bronco (waterplane) at Costa del Sol you’ll find this big purple chest in front of you. Open it to get the treasure map.
It will mark 4 islands with an “X” on the map. However, if you want to wait with this until after the story it will automatically mark all locations on the world map itself which makes them easier to locate. Or you can refer to the locations below.
Pirate’s Treasure Locations
At each of these locations you will find a small island where you can dock the Tiny Bronco (waterplane). Then you see the purple treasure chest on a hill, guarded by a powerful enemy. Defeat the enemy and climb the ledges to the chest. The chests are in plain sight, the only hard part is finding the correct islands and defeating the powerful enemy.
Pirate King’s Grotto “a” – on the coastline of Gongaga, in the south-west of the ocean.
Pirate King’s Grotto “b” – on the coastline of Junon, in the south-east of the ocean.
Pirate King’s Grotto “y” – near the center of Meridian Ocean, north-east of Costa del Sol.
Pirate King’s Grotto “d” – a little further north-east of the previous treasure. Near the entrance to Gilgamesh Island.
After finding all 4 treasures you must open Item Transmuter Menu > Accessories > Corsair’s Compass (transmute it). Then you get a cutscene. Now when you drive the Tiny Bronco over the ocean it will show a radar that points you to the nearest purple chest, which contain higher quality materials. You don’t need to equip it to any of your party members for this effect to work. The event will auto-complete upon crafting Corsair’s Compass.
You need this item later for the Legendary VR Bouts.
