Assassin’s Creed Odyssey A Family’s Legacy Side Quest Walkthrough

October 1, 2018 by PowerPyx 7 Comments

A Family’s Legacy is a Side Quest in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This walkthrough shows how to complete the quest.

Recommended Level: 27
Region: Thera (Volcanic Islands)
Requirements: Beat “United Front” Main Quest in Story Sequence 7
Reward: Birthright trophy or achievement, Between Two Worlds (Atlantis / First Civilization) Story Arc, Unlock Atlantis for fast travel, The Gates of Atlantis Questline

Objectives:

  • Find Information about your real father
  • Open the door
  • Find your father

A Family’s Legacy Starting Location

The Family’s Legacy quest starts after beating main quest “United Front” in Story Sequence 7. It can then be selected from the quest log. The first objective leads to you island Thera, see the location below:

Find Information about your real father

When you first arrive at the quest marker, use your eagle to scan the ruins for a treasure chest. It contains an Ancient Tablet.

The tablet tells what to do to open the door, you can check it at any time in the inventory in your bag. It reads:

Ancient Tablet: While continuing my research on the Minoan ruins, I found writing that spoke of a doorway. After some translation, it appeared that the reflective mirros I found are part of a mechanism. I aligned the mirrors, and when I went back into the ruins, I found a path that led deeper underground. At thevery bottom of the cave I found an entrance to somewhere else. Tomorrow, I shall open the door and see what’s inside.

The giant door gets marked as a quest objective. Behind it is where you find the location of Atlantis, the Lost City. Let’s open it!

Open the door

You open the door by following the beams of light and aligning the mirros along the way. The goal is to redirect the light from one mirror to the next until the light hits the giant door. To do this you’ll have to move with the light, destroy some barricades and push some carts that are blocking the light.

The lightbeam starts when you look up behind the door:

At the first mirror you must hit the wooden barricade blocking it:

Follow the light, you’ll have to hit a wooden door blocking the path and then slide down a zipline. Here you must move 3 wooden racks. You must move them all to the opposite side where they’re standing by default.

#1 – Move to the right so the light can hit the mirror

#2 – Move to the right so the mirror can reflect light to the third rack (the one that has a mirror on it).

#3 – Move it all the way to the front until it goes no further. Then the light will reflect to the outside, to some ruins across from you.

Almost there! One last puzzle must be done in the ruins facing the big door. Again, a bunch of wooden racks must be moved.

Finished Puzzle:

#1 – Push the mirror backwards.

#2 – Push back the tall rack.

#3 – Push the rack on the left all the way to the mirror on the right.

#4 – Pull the small cart forward.

#5 – And finally, pull the tall rack (same as #2) to you again. Now the light can hit the mirror and reflect.

The last step is to go downstairs and hit the wooden barricade. Now the light shines at the door and it can be opened! Now let’s find Atlantis in AC Odyssey.

Find your father

The rest of the quest consists of traversing through some lava-filled rooms. There are rocks sticking out of the ground. Jump from rock to rock without touching the lava or it will kill you.

At the end you’ll meet your true father Pythagoras and find Atlantis. This starts the First Civilization Story Path. You’ll see a cutscene of present day with the two researchers. You have to play as one of them and dive in the cave of Atlantis. This now transforms into the storyline “Between Two Worlds” and the questline “The Gates of Atlantis“. To finish it you will have to defeat the 4 world bosses: Medusa, Minotaur, Cyclops, Sphynx. Their locations are listed in the quest log under the Gates of Atlantis quest. They will drop artifacts that you need to bring back to Pythagoras.

This concludes A Family’s Legacy Side Quest in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (ACOD) and unlocks Atlantis! You also earn the Birthright trophy & achievement.

Then you haven’t done the puzzle correct, I haven’t bought the dlc and I opened the door and received the trophy AND completed the questline, the dlc is what happens after you complete the full questline

Is this quest part of the cannon before or after the ending because of the present day sequence?

I don’t think it matters, mate. I’m doing it now, after I completed the character’s main story, but the quest was there ever since Kassandra’s mother told her to go look for her dada.

I have killed the 4 mythical bosses but now, when I need to go back for the quest “seal atlantis” the gate is closed again. How do I get back in?
