Assassin’s Creed Odyssey All Sphinx Riddle Solutions

October 1, 2018 by PowerPyx 8 Comments

The Sphinx is a secret boss in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that’s part of the Atlantis questline. The Sphinx will give you a series of riddles. She has 12 riddles but will only ask 3. This guide contains all riddle solutions. It’s randomized which of the 12 you are asked but you must answer all 3 correctly or else you get killed and must start over with a new set of questions.

First, to even get to the Sphinx, play Side Quests “A Family’s Legacy” (Thera) > “Lore of the Sphinx” (Boeotia Region) > “Awaken the Myth” (Boeotia Region). The earliest you can do this is in Sequence 7 after main quest “United Front”. A Family’s Legacy will bring you to Atlantis. After discovering Atlantis you unlock the “Lore of the Sphinx” Quest. From here it’s easy, just follow the waypoint markers.

Be sure to remember your riddle answers or write them down! After talking to the Sphinx you must press 3 buttons that correspond with your answers. If you make a mistake here you have to start over again.

Sphinx Riddles & Solutions

Riddle #1: As small as your thumb, I am light in the air. You may hear me before you see me, but trust that I’m here.
Solution #1: Hummingbird

Riddle #2: In spring I am gay in handsome array; in summer more clothing I wear; when colder it grows, I fling off my clothes; and in winter quite naked appear.
Solution #2: Tree

Riddle #3: Never resting, never still; moving silently from hill to hill; it does not walk, run or trot; all is cool where it is not.
Solution #3: Sun

Riddle #4: What can bring back the dead; make you cry, make you laugh, make you young; is born in an instant, yet lasts a lifetime.
Solution #4: Memory

Riddle #5: What is always old and sometimes new; never sad, sometimes blue; never empty, but sometimes full; never pushes, always pulls?
Solution #5: Moon

Riddle #6: What is large, yet never grows; has roots that cannot be seen; and is taller than trees?
Solution #6: Mountain

Riddle #7: At night they come without being fetched, and by day they are lost without being stolen.
Solution #7: Stars

Riddle #8: I create my lair with earthen string, and dispatch my prey with a biting sting.
Solution #8: Spider

Riddle #9: This thing all things devour: birds, beasts, trees, flowers; gnaws iron, bites steel; grinds hard stones to meal.
Solution #9: Time

Riddle #10: Some try to hide, some try to cheat; but time will show, we always will meet. Try as you might to guess my name.
Solution #10: Death

Riddle #11: What can run, but never walks; has a mouth, but never talks; has a head, but never weeps; has a bed, but never sleeps?
Solution #11: River

Riddle #12: I’m alive, but without breath; I’m as cold in life as in death; I’m never thirsty, though I always drink.
Solution #12: Fish

That’s all the Sphinx Riddles & Solutions in ACOD. As a reward you earn an Artifact for Atlantis and the Riddle Me This Trophy or Achievement.

I answered Wind instead of Sun, and it still accepted it as the right answer

Wind shouldn’t work because you need to be cool where the thing is _not_

I asked these questions to my friends and they answered quite well later I told these are the questions that Sphinx asked, and guess what they were thrilled that they have answered it…..

Question #9 has actually been lifted. So you could say I cheated by already knowing the answer when the Sphinx asked it:
It was actually asked by Gollum to Bilbo during chapter 5 “Riddles in the Dark” of The Hobbit (pg 74 (of my 1978 edition))

Riddles 6 and 12 are also paraphrased from “The Hobbit” (Although the sphinx missed the last line to complete the rhyme. Given the paraphrase, the Sphinx should have concluded with: “Clad in mail, yet I never clink”. ie. scales)
