In The Blood of Dawnwalker, Edicts are issued by your nemesis “Brencis” whenever your Infamy Level rises. After the Prologue, you unlock the “Court” menu. You must then complete all Court Activities to advance the story and raise your Infamy Level.
The Infamy levels measure how much chaos you’ve caused to disrupt Brencis’s coronation (the overall story goal). Brencis then issues Edicts to make your life harder and to keep you from disrupting his coronation. The edicts are initially hidden in the Court menu, so if you want to plan out your playthrough it’s good to know upfront what each Edict does. The further you progress, the more negative effects you receive through the edicts.
- Edict 1: Additional patrols in settlements
- Edict 2: Military checkpoints appear throughout the valley
- Edict 3: Price increases throughout the valley
- Edict 4: Additional soldiers patrol the roads + Patrol commanders now recognize Coen
- Edict 5: Fewer people outdoors between dusk and dawn
- Edict 6: Further military checkpoints appear throughout the valley + Further price increases throughout the valley
- Edict 7: Headhunters appear in the valley + All soldiers now recognize Coen
- Edict 8: All soldiers become stronger
- Edict 9: Svartrau City gates are shut (can only climb over the walls at night)
It’s worth noting that the Edicts will only be issued after a day passes in-game, not immediately when you’ve raised the Infamy Level. You then get a cutscene where someone reads out the edict in Svartrau City. Defeating the 3 vassals (bosses) increases Infamy by a full level each. The rest of the Infamy comes from doing the Court Activities and clearing out Soldier Camps.
