Starting Location: Rise at Dawn
This quest starts immediately after completing Crake’s quest Who Pulls the Strings.
Come back in a few days
After completing Who Pulls the Strings, you will need to wait at least two in-game days (32 time segments) before you can progress this quest.
Return to Marat once you’re ready to move
Once you are ready to progress and trigger the ending, you can talk to Marat at the manumit hideout in Svartrau City and tell him “I’m ready to march on Brencis’s castle.”
POINT OF NO RETURN: Note that this will automatically fail all currently unfinished quests, as you cannot return and complete anything that is unfinished once you start the ending sequence. Keep a manual save before this to reload to keep playing and trigger other endings.
After going over the plan with Marat, he will give a pep talk to the manumits. You can respond during this or stay silent.
Follow Marat
After the scene, you will automatically move to the area where this quest occurs. Follow Marat down the mountain nearby.
Tie your rope
You’ll stop automatically at the cliff edge to tie your rope. You can respond how you want during this dialogue.
Defeat the vanguard
You will automatically rappel down the cliff to the area below. Defeat all of the enemies in the area.
Breach the second gate
After the first group is defeated, follow Marat and the other manumits to the next gate and defeat the next group of enemies.
In this second group of enemies a gargoyle miniboss will spawn that you need to defeat to progress.
Open the outer gate
You need to open the gate for the soldiers outside. Go up the steps to the right of the gate tower and defeat the Blood Guard enemy inside. If you’re stuck in combat you may have to run outside and deal with the other enemies, even though Marat is telling you to open the gate.
Once you are able to, in the tower inspect the crank to open the gate.
After the scene where the soldiers come in, you’ll have the opportunity to intervene in Catalin killing some soldiers. You can respond how you like here, choices made through the rest of the quest only have minor changes to dialogue, so these choices are personal preference.
(Optional) Talk to the quartermaster
In this area there are a few vendors you can speak to if you want to buy supplies before the final section of the game. Most of them also have extra optional dialogue if you want to learn more about what is going on and the people Catalin brought to fight with him.
Go to Marat once you’re ready for the final battle
When you are ready to progress the quest, go to the north gate and at the top you will automatically speak with Marat. Confirm with him when you are ready to move on.
After one more scene you will be at the secret tunnel into the castle, immediately starting the next quest.
NEXT CRAKE QUEST: Fall Before Dusk
This finishes Rise at Dawn ending quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
