  • Quest Description: We went to the mines to get silver ore for the rebellion – but Brencis caught wind of our plans and attacked. I was wounded, I passed out – I don’t remember what happened afterwards. All I know is that my father went missing and I need to find him.

Objectives:

  1. Search for your father deeper in the mine
  2. Aid Ludwig (Optional)
  3. Help Kostel
  4. Find a way back up
  5. Use vrakhiri skills to cross the precipice
  6. Leave the mine
  7. Return to Laslea and save your family
  8. Find Vladimir (Optional)
  9. Talk with Vladimir (Optional)
  10. Defeat Brencis

Search For Your Father Deeper in the Mine (1 Time Segment)

When you wake up, hours have passed and you’ve been injured. Vladimir fills you in on what happened but there are still gaps in your memory. He doesn’t know what happened to your father, but he isn’t among the corpses littered throughout the area. You have to go deeper to see if you can find him. Take a second to re-equip all of your armor and weapons, then head down the tunnel following the blood trail. Along the way, Coen starts having harrowing visions of an underground cave, a whirling column of darkness and rocks floating in the void, and a giant orb. He’s barely holding it together. Keep following the tunnels and you’ll see signs of a running battle, and suddenly a survivor!

Aid Ludwig (Optional, 1 Time Segment)

Ludwig has been trapped under a fallen beam and been crushed. Together you can lift the beam out of the way, but sadly it is too late for Ludwig.

Keep following the trail of footprints and blood, deeper into the mine. Eventually, you will start to hear the beating of a heart. Follow the sound until you find Kostel, badly injured.

Help Kostel

Vladimir tells you to apply pressure to the wound while he heats his blade with a torch to cauterize it. Kostel however, doesn’t seem too keen to let Coen touch him. And rightly so, since Coen seems to be preoccupied with all the blood that has been splashed everywhere. No matter how much you say you’re going to resist, eventually Coen gives in to his instinct and makes a shocking discovery in the process.

Suddenly Coen remembers what happened to him, what Brencis did to him. As Coen recoils in terror, Kostel grabs a knife and suddenly discovers the will to stab. He limps across the shaft and attacks Coen, sending them both tumbling down a shaft into the pit below.

Find a Way Back Up

Kostel’s limp body appears to be dragged off by kobolds, and likely turned into lunch. Coen survives, his bones cracking back into place as they heal. He is taunted by the kobolds, but they don’t attack. Squeeze through the narrow gap to the southwest to escape the room. Follow the cavern, crouching through an area full of bone mobiles to reach the next area, then head northeast along the edge.

Use Vrakhiri Skills to Cross the Precipice

Follow the path up to the northeast until you reach a gap that is too wide to jump. At this moment Coen will gain access to the shadowstep ability that you first learned about in the dream you had at the beginning of the game. Hold :r2: / :rt: and aim at the ledge on the other side of the gap, then release :r2: / :rt: to change into mist form and fly across to the other side. This ability is based on your stamina, so you can make use of this ability frequently.

Continue up the path and through to another cavern, using shadowstep to jump over the gaps in the ramps working your way from platform to platform up the shaft. You will get a blood drinking tutorial, to allow you to restore your health to full using rats in the mine. Eventually you’ll reach a very large shaft with no platforms to shadowstep to, and no clear exit.

As you drop down into the base of the cavern, a group of five kobolds will ambush you. While your instinct will be to draw your sword, use your claws instead since they’re about twice as powerful as the best sword you might have found or bought in Laslea Glen. When you sheathe your sword, your normal human fistfighting stance will change to claws extending like Wolverine and you’ll be able to tear through them like paper. Other than numbers, the kobolds don’t bring anything new to the fight.

After you finish them off, climb up the platforms to the northwest, then shadowstep across a chasm to a platform with a kobold nest. Fun fact, you can also use voracious bite to perform a shadowstep-like effect across chasms.

Climb up a few more platforms and you’ll pass another crude cave painting of the kobolds feeding on the miners. Continue climbing up and the path will switch back in the other direction, go up a short ramp then end abruptly. You will now get a planeshift tutorial, introducing you to a new vampire ability which basically lets you use “sticky feet” and walk up the wall vertically.

Shadowstep to the wall that has the conveniently marked white path up the wall, and when you land you’ll automatically reorient to have your feet “down”. Make sure you place the shadowstep target as far up the wall as you can before you release :r2: / :rt: , since planeshift also uses stamina and running out at this point will likely mean a long climb back up to try again.

Walk up to the top of the cliff, and when you reach the edge you’ll get a prompt to press :x: / :a: to “Turn the Corner”. Hit it, and you’ll shadowstep right to the top. Convenient and saves the developers from making a new animation for clambering around corners.

Continue down the tunnel and you’ll find a gap that’s too wide to shadowstep. Look up while the kobolds taunt you, and you’ll see a convenient level strip of ceiling right above you. Shadowstep to it, and you’ll planeshift to the ceiling and be able to walk across.

Leave the Mine

Jump down on the other side, and follow the path right to a narrow gap you can squeeze through to escape.

Return to Laslea and Save Your Family (2 Time Segments)

Coming to the edge of the cliff, you’ll see smoke and flames coming from the direction of the village. At the edge, you’ll be prompted to press :o: / :b: to clawride, introducing you to a new traversal ability. Press and hold the button, and you’ll hop over the edge and use your claws to slow your descent down the cliff face.

Heading towards the village,  you will encounter two Brencis soldiers who have orders to bring you to their master. You can either follow them, or kill them and pursue the optional objective.

Find Vladimir (Optional, 1 Time Segment)

Inspect the body that the two soldiers were standing near and Coen will notice that it’s a soldier that has been stabbed in the back. Assuming it’s Vladimir’s handiwork, Coen follows the trail of blood and footprints after him.

The trail shows that he was wounded and that someone was chasing him, and following it will lead you to two more potential victims. Kill the human and Uriash and continue down the trail. When you eventually reach the end of the trail, you’ll see two soldiers standing in front of a burning building. They’ve trapped Vladimir inside and are waiting for him to die unless you help. One is a normal soldier, the other is a Vrakhiri Banneret. Defeat them both and then reason with Vladimir to convince him to come out of the house before he suffocates.

Talk with Vladimir (Optional)

You will both go to the crag above Laslea, and he’ll tell you about what happened. Then you can clawride down the cliff and head towards the village.

NOTE: The cost of the objective “Return to Laslea and save your family” will now reduce to 1 time segment since Vladimir leads you to a shortcut into down, so there’s no downside to helping Vladimir first.

When you finally reach the village, you’ll find it in flames with Brencis gloating over your father’s defeat. He slashes your father’s cheek and orders you to drink but you refuse, which enrages Brencis. He says that you have emerged from the change malformed and must be destroyed!

Defeat Brencis

Coen is not supposed to win this battle. He must lose to Brencis to advance the story. Feel free to get a feel for his combat moves however, since you will eventually have to fight him for keeps.

NOTE: Though difficult at the beginning of the game, even on story mode, it is possible to defeat Brencis in this scene. Doing so will allow you to unlock the :bronze: Realmwalker trophy early, and get a sneak peek at Brencis’s true form.

After Brencis defeats you, he will attempt to feast upon your blood but something about its taste forces him to spit it out. Dawn is breaking however, so he doesn’t have time to tarry. He pins you to a tree with a pickaxe and leaves you to die in the sunlight while he makes his getaway.

This finishes Bad Blood in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
