Starting Location: Midnight Reckoning

This quest starts immediately after completing the prior quest Our Rotten Roots.

Note there can be differences in this final mission depending on whether or not you defeated all main bosses (Boyars) before triggering the ending. They will be in place of certain enemies as you progress through the castle. It is recommended to defeat all main bosses before the endings to make this quest easier.

Talk to Lacra in one day

After completing Our Rotten Roots, you will need to wait at least one in-game days (16 time segments) before you can progress this quest.

Talk with Lacra when you’re ready to attack Brencis

Once you are ready to progress and trigger the ending, you can talk to Lacra at the Westridge Outpost Tower and tell her “It’s time to deal with Brencis.” Make sure you have also completed her optional quest The Night of Horrors first.

POINT OF NO RETURN: Note that this will automatically fail all currently unfinished quests, as you cannot return and complete anything that is unfinished once you start the ending sequence. Keep a manual save before this to reload to keep playing and trigger other endings.

Find an entrance to the ruins

You will automatically move to a house in Svartrau. Go down the stairs into the basement, and there is a crack by some barrels that you can squeeze through, visible with Focus Mode (L2/LT).

Make your way through the ruins

Drop down the hole in the ground to enter the ruins, then follow the path into the cave.  When you reach the ledge, you can Clawride down the wall to the lower area.

Follow the linear path ahead and in the first large room you will need to defeat a gargoyle miniboss to progress.

After it is dealt with, you can use Shadowstep to teleport across the gap in the room to the other side.

Progress up the stairs, and Lacra will blast open the wall allowing you to enter the next area.

Proceed through the temple

Progress into the next long room, and there will be groups of soldiers you need to deal with to progress. Deal with them and keep following the hallway around as it turns to the right.

Defeat Ambrus’s soldiers

When you reach the end of the hallway go through the metal doors leading into the center of the area. There will be more soldiers you need to deal with in the main central room.

Exit the temple

After the soldiers are defeated, Lacra will automatically stop the ritual. You can then go through the next set of metal doors to continue out of the area.

Climb up the wooden scaffolding and the platforms in the cave to continue toward the castle.

Make your way through the dungeon

You will enter the castle through the dungeon area. You will start encountering groups of undead phantoms instead of soldiers.

After defeating the enemies in the nearby room you can find the Prison Cells Key on a body, which opens in the cell doors you ran past. This isn’t really worth it in this ending though, as all of the prisoners are effectively non-responsive and stay in the cells.

When you progress toward the next hallway, you will automatically stop due to running into talking corpses. You can ask them a couple questions similar to when using Compel Soul.

In the next room there will be more enemies to defeat, then you need to use Shadowstep to teleport to the ledge above.

In the next room there will be an undead miniboss. If you didn’t defeat Bakir, he will be present here instead.

Continue into the next area and you will automatically stop to speak with Lacra, you can respond to her however you want here.

Make your way to the throneroom

After you are done speaking with Lacra, continue through the western door to reach the courtyard.

Out in the courtyard, there will be a large group of undead soldiers you need to defeat to progress.

Get into the castle using your vrakhiri abilities

In the courtyard there are a bunch of floating stones, similar to when you were in Anachora. Use Shadowstep and Phaseshift to climb the rocks to progress upwards.

Follow the floating rocks around the corner, and then teleport to the ledge with the doorway below you.

Once you reach the interior area, Xanthe will appear. If you made a with her instead of killing her she will let you pass by without attacking you. If you never dealt with her, then you fight her here.

Go through the metal gate, then up the flight of stairs. There will be more undead phantoms to defeat, then you can continue through the door behind them.

If you made a deal with Xanthe, then you will not encounter any Blood Guard enemies in the next room. Defeat the few remaining soldiers, then go up the stairs at the back.

In the next room you will have one more miniboss to defeat.

Then you can continue following the linear path and interact with the door to reach the throneroom.

Brencis wants one final talk before you can fight him. If you reached this point within the 30 day time limit and your family is still alive, it is possible to trigger The Turncoat ending by choosing the dialogue option “I accept your offer. I’m sorry, Lacra.”

To fight him to trigger The Patricide ending, choose “Just draw your blade, Brencis.”

Defeat Brencis

First you fight Brencis with the help of Lacra. In this part of the fight he primarily uses his claws and sword attacks that you can block like other vampire enemies, along with unblockable ranged attacks that he will typically jump away to use, similar to Bakir. Using Burning Blood Witchcraft ability on him is very helpful, as it will still temporarily stun him at times similar to other enemies.

After depleting his first health bar, you are pulled to Anachora and fight him by yourself.

In this second part of the fight he still uses normal sword attacks, but gains some new Vampiric ability attacks. He will use the unblockable scream similar to a murohn, which you should avoid by dodging to either side to get around it. He will also now swipe at you with the large tentacle hand, which is an unblockable attack that you should dodge.

When you reach the two health checkpoints, he will do a completely unavoidable grab attack. If you had drained any of the main bosses (Boyars) while dealing with them, they will sometimes appear as phantoms to help you attack him, but after using this grab attack Brencis absorbs them and can start summoning them against you as well, so watch out for attacks such as Bakir’s ranged birds, or phantoms of Ambrus that appear and perform melee attacks on you.

After you deplete the second health bar Brencis is defeated. You can respond to him however you want through the rest of this section, and will trigger the ending of the game, earning the trophy/achievement :silver: The Patricide.

After the cutscene you will enter the Epilogue in the starting village Laslea Glen (all endings lead there). What dialogues you pick in the epilogue is of no consequence, just go to the marked objectives on the map to chat with the people around town and inspect the traps in the woods, then enter the cave and let the rest of the cutscenes play out. After the epilogue you are put back in the title screen with no option to free-roam anymore, but you can reload your last manual save before the ending to still clean up All Endings and Side Quests.

This finishes Midnight Reckoning ending quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
