A Lone Wolf’s Hunt is an ending quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the A Lone Wolf’s Hunt ending mission.

  • Starting Location: Greifberg Castle
  • Quest Giver: None
  • Requirement: Enter Greifberg Castle by yourself
  • Fail State: None
  • Reward: :silver: The Folk Hero trophy/achievement
  • Time Required: None
  • Quest Description: Confronting and defeating Brencis without anyone’s help will be risky, but not impossible. With a bit of luck, I may be able to surprise the vrakhir – and finally make him answer for everything he’s done to us.

Objectives:

  1. Enter the inner keep
  2. Find the throne room
  3. Find Brencis in the dungeons
  4. Find Brencis in the underground sanctuary
  5. Defeat Brencis

Starting Location: A Lone Wolf’s Hunt

A Lone Wolf’s Hunt is the ending quest that is triggered if you enter Greifberg Castle by yourself, without either Crake or Lacra in their ending related quests. There are two possible ways to do this, either by going over the wall of the castle or through the side entrance.

Climbing over the wall can be done effectively any time at night. Walk up the path toward the castle in Svartrau and use Planeshift and Shadowstep to reach the top of the wall. You will receive the ending warning dialogue before reaching the top, then there will be a cutscene and you are pulled inside the courtyard to start the ending sequence.

The side entrance is the other way to enter the castle, which can be done either during the day or night. Whether you enter at day or night determines whether you will be in Human or Vampire form, so be aware of the time of day when you decide to enter through the side entrance. The side entrance is located up a short path at the top of a path, northwest of the Vedera Shallows Shrine.

There are two ways you can go through the side entrance, either by agreeing to work with Father Florin, or by finding a key and going through on your own.

To work with Father Florin, you are required to complete the quest “In the Name of the Father“. This quest takes you through one of the Curious Houses in Svartrau City, to some underground ruins where Father Florin hangs out. You can reject his offer to work with him initially if you want, then still come back later and agree to work with him as long as you haven’t killed him. The way to enter the house is through the balcony directly north of the West Gate of Svartrau. You can speak with him and say “Alright, let’s work together” and he will explain how to get into the side door of the castle.

The other way to enter the side door is to obtain a key for it. This is done by defeating the miniboss Georghe, “The Rabid Duke” located at a Racovitza’s Bandit Camp on the east edge of the map. You can then loot the Side Gate Key to Greifberg Castle off his body. You can then use this key on the side entrance to enter the castle to start the ending sequence.

Enter the inner keep

Whichever way you enter, you will start in the courtyard of the castle. You will need to defeat a few enemies on the lower level, followed by a gargoyle miniboss.

Follow the path on the upper level of the courtyard, then enter the door on the left to go inside the castle.

Inside you’ll have to deal with some enemies. If you didn’t defeat Ambrus, he will be present here instead.

Find the throne room

Go through the metal gates and up the stairs, then through the next rooms. When you reach the next room with enemies, Xanthe will call out to you if you made a deal with her instead of killing her. She stops supernatural enemies from appearing in the next area if you made the deal, if not this next area is full of undead. Defeat any enemies in this room, then go up the flight of stairs at the back.

Continue following the linear path through one more room with a group of enemies, then interact with the door at the end of the hallway to reach the throne room.

If Xanthe is alive, she will appear in the throne room. If you made a deal with her, she will let you pass. If you did not deal with her, then you will have to fight her here.

Find Brencis in the dungeons

Go through the next doorway to start making your way to the dungeons.

Deal with any soldiers along the path, then keep following the stairs leading downward. In the large room, you will automatically stop to talk to some prisoners, you can respond how you want to them.

Drop down and keep following the path leading underground. In the next room you will encounter the dungeon Warden. If you defeated Bakir, you have the chance to attack the Warden or let him go without fighting him. If you hadn’t dealt with Bakir, then he will be here instead.

Continue into the next room, defeating any enemies nearby. Before reaching the prisoners in the cells, it is possible to obtain the Prison Cells Key on a body. You can use this to release the prisoners in the hallway you pass through.

Find Brencis in the underground sanctuary

Continue through one more room of enemies, then you will reach a large pit. Keep following the platforms down to the bottom level.

Go down the final set of stairs and interact with the metal doors to confront Brencis.

Defeat Brencis

In this ending you fight Brencis alone. In this part of the fight he primarily uses his claws and sword attacks that you can block like other vampire enemies, along with unblockable ranged attacks that he will typically jump away to use, similar to Bakir. Using Burning Blood Witchcraft ability on him is very helpful, as it will still temporarily stun him at times similar to other enemies.

After depleting his first health bar, you are pulled to Anachora and fight him by yourself.

In this second part of the fight he still uses normal sword attacks, but gains some new Vampiric ability attacks. He will use the unblockable scream similar to a murohn, which you should avoid by dodging to either side to get around it. He will also now swipe at you with the large tentacle hand, which is an unblockable attack that you should dodge.

When you reach the two health checkpoints, he will do a completely unavoidable grab attack. If you had drained any of the main bosses (Boyars) while dealing with them, they will sometimes appear as phantoms to help you attack him, but after using this grab attack Brencis absorbs them and can start summoning them against you as well, so watch out for attacks such as Bakir’s ranged birds, or phantoms of Ambrus that appear and perform melee attacks on you.

After you deplete the second health bar Brencis is defeated. You can respond to him however you want through the rest of this section, and will trigger the ending of the game, earning the trophy/achievement :silver: The Folk Hero.

After the cutscene you will enter the Epilogue in the starting village Laslea Glen (all endings lead there). What dialogues you pick in the epilogue is of no consequence, just go to the marked objectives on the map to chat with the people around town and inspect the traps in the woods, then enter the cave and let the rest of the cutscenes play out. After the epilogue you are put back in the title screen with no option to free-roam anymore, but you can reload your last manual save before the ending to still clean up All Endings.

This finishes A Lone Wolf’s Hunt ending quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
