The Blood of Dawnwalker contains 7 endings. The endings unlock the following trophies & achievements:
- The Turncoat
/ In the Nick of Time
– Betray your allies to strike a deal with Brencis and get your family back. - The Folk Hero
– Defeat Brencis on your own. All the glory is yours. Yours alone. Nobody else’s. - The Patricide
– Defeat Brencis together with Lacra. - The Knyazmaker
– Defeat Brencis together with Crake. - A Hero They Deserve
– Escape Vale Sangora, escape responsibility. Phew. - Together Forever
– Stay with your family. It’s safe if you stick together. You’ll never lose them. Ever. - Time Runs Out (Bad Ending) (no trophy) – You take more than 30 in-game days to defeat Brencis and your family gets sacrificed.
Endings in The Blood of Dawnwalker are determined by your dialogue choices in the final quest. The 5th and 6th ending are “early” endings, which the game does consider as completing the story for the trophy/achievement
The Blood of Dawnwalker, but doesn’t count for completing Duelist difficulty as that specifically requires saving the people of Laslea, which requires the four normal endings.
How to Get All Endings in 1 Playthrough
You can get all endings in a single playthrough. Just keep a manual save before the final quest and reload it after each ending. To set up all endings in one playthrough:
- During the Prologue give Esme (your mother) the correct medicine before time runs out so she doesn’t die.
- After the Prologue finish all Court Activities to defeat the 3 main bosses (Ambrus, Bakir, Xanthe). What dialogue choices you make doesn’t matter for the endings. Only the choices during the final quest matter.
- You have to reach the ending within 30 in-game days. If you take longer, your family dies and you can’t get “In the Nick of Time” anymore. If you focus on just the main quests (Court Activities), you can do it in under 10 in-game days, so there’s more than enough time.
- Before fighting Brencis (the endboss), keep a manual save and do the side questlines of Lacra and Crake, they are the allies needed for two endings (The Patricide & The Knyazmaker).
- Keep another save after Lacra’s and Crake’s questlines are done, then you can do all endings from that save.
Ending 1: The Turncoat
Trophy:
The Turncoat /
In the Nick of Time – Betray your allies to strike a deal with Brencis and get your family back / Rescue your family before the time runs out.
Step 1: Defeat the 3 main bosses (Ambrus, Bakir, Xanthe) within 30 days – see Main Walkthrough. During the Prologue give Esme (your mother) the correct medicine before time runs out so she doesn’t die. Your other choices during the story don’t matter.
Step 2: After defeating the 3 main bosses, you should be at maximum infamy. Skip time until the next day so you get the cutscene where the Infamy Edicts are being read out, then you will get a message from Brencis that he wants to parley with you. You then get the final quest “A Deal with the Devil” added to your journal (keep manual save here).
Step 3: During the final quest “A Deal with the Devil”, pick the first dialogue “I just want my family back.“, then in the third dialogue confirm “I’ll do it“. In the second and fourth dialogue you can say whatever you want, as long as you don’t pick the sword option which results in you instantly attacking Brencis.
Step 4: Brencis wants you to mark the Manumit Hideout Location. It requires doing 3 side quests to be invited into the Manumit hideout: The Fireband > Shadows in the Woods > Where Loyalty Lies. The Firebrand starts in the Military Camp in Briar Sloughs.
After completing one quest, the next quest starts automatically. Play the quests until you are invited into the Manumit Hideout during “Where Loyalty Lies”. Then at night interact with the door of the hideout to trigger this ending.
Alternate Options during Lacra’s/Crake’s Endings: If you wanted to trigger this on either The Patricide or The Knyazmaker ending paths, both have a similar option right before the final boss, where Brencis offers you to betray your allies to get your family back. In Lacra’s ending this is done by choosing “I accept your offer. I’m sorry, Lacra”. In Crake’s ending this is done by choosing “Please – maybe we can come to an agreement.”
Ending 2: The Folk Hero
Trophy:
The Folk Hero – Defeat Brencis on your own. All the glory is yours. Yours alone. Nobody else’s.
This corresponds to one of the “good” endings of the game, where you defeat Brencis on your own without the help of Lacra or Crake.
Step 1: Defeat the 3 main bosses (Ambrus, Bakir, Xanthe) – see Main Walkthrough. Your other choices during the story don’t matter for this ending.
Step 2: After defeating the 3 main bosses, you should be at maximum infamy. Skip time till the next day so you get the cutscene where the Infamy Edicts are being read out, then you will get a message from Brencis that he wants to parley with you. You then get the final quest “A Deal with the Devil” added to your journal (keep manual save here).
Step 3: During the final quest “A Deal with the Devil”, in the first dialogue choose “Enough. Time to End this.” to fight Brencis without Lacra or Crake.
Alternate Method (Kill Brencis in his Castle early): You can also go to kill Brencis in his castle immediately after the Prologue to end the story early. This can be done in one of two ways, either climbing over the wall to the castle or going through the side entrance.
Climbing over the wall can be done effectively any time at night. Walk up the path toward the castle and use Planeshift and Shadowstep to reach the top of the wall. You will receive the ending warning dialogue before reaching the top, then there will be a cutscene and you are pulled inside to start the ending sequence.
The side entrance is the other way to enter the castle, which can be done either during the day or night. The side entrance is located up a short path at the top of a path, northwest of the Vedera Shallows Shrine.
There are two ways you can go through the side entrance, either by agreeing to work with Father Florin, or by finding a key and going through on your own.
To work with Father Florin, you are required to complete the quest “In the Name of the Father”. This quest takes you through one of the Curious Houses in Svartrau City, to some underground ruins where Father Florin hangs out. You can reject his offer to work with him initially if you want, then still come back later and agree to work with him as long as you haven’t killed him. The way to enter the house is through the balcony directly north of the West Gate of Svartrau. You can speak with him and say “Alright, let’s work together” and he will explain how to get into the side door of the castle.
The other way to enter the side door is to obtain a key for it. This is done by defeating the miniboss Georghe, “The Rabid Duke” located at a Racovitza’s Bandit Camp on the east edge of the map. You can then loot the Side Gate Key to Greifberg Castle off his body. You can then use this key on the side entrance to enter the castle to start the ending sequence.
Ending 3: The Patricide
Trophy:
The Patricide – Defeat Brencis together with Lacra.
This corresponds to one of the “good” endings, where you defeat Brencis with Lacra’s help. To finish this ending you must complete Lacra’s questline, and then initiate the ending by speaking to her with the objective in her quest Midnight Reckoning.
Lacra’s Quests:
- A Friend Like This
- Song of the Mountain
- Hive and Seek
- Our Rotten Roots
- The Night of Horrors (optional, completing this awards
Misery Loves Company)
- The Night of Horrors (optional, completing this awards
- Midnight Reckoning (Ending Quest)
Ending 4: The Knyazmaker
Trophy:
The Knyazmaker – Defeat Brencis together with Crake.
This corresponds one of the “good” endings, where you defeat Brencis with Crake and the Manumit’s help. To finish this ending you must complete Crake’s questline, then initiate the ending by speaking to him with the objective in his quest Rise at Dawn.
Crake’s Quests:
- The Firebrand
- Shadows in the Woods
- Where Loyalty Lies
- What Hunts the Night
- What Moves the Dead
- Who Pulls the Strings
- Distant Shadows (optional)
- A Closer Look (optional, completing this awards
The Manumit)
- Rise at Dawn (ending quest)
- Fall Before Dusk (Ending Quest)
Ending 5: A Hero They Deserve
Trophy:
A Hero They Deserve – Escape Vale Sangora, escape responsibility. Phew.
This corresponds to one of the early “bad” endings, where you leave the valley of Vale Sangora and leave everything behind without saving your family or anyone from Laslea. This can be done immediately after the Prologue to end the game early, but only works at night when you have access to your Shadowstep vampiric skill.
Step 1: On the west side of the map in the Briar Sloughs area, west of the Coward’s Path Shrine, there is a broken bridge leading to an open gate. At night you can use Planeshift and Shadowstep to climb the wall of the canyon, reaching the path that leads to the gate. Enter and choose “[leave the valley forever]” to trigger this ending.
Ending 6: Together Forever
Trophy:
Together Forever – Stay with your family. It’s safe if you stick together. You’ll never lose them. Ever.
This corresponds to one of the early “bad” endings, and takes place specifically during the quest “Home Sweet Home”, which is counted as one of Xanthe’s Court activities.
Step 1: Go through the inside of Silts Tower, interact with the door on the top floor, pick the option “[open the door]“. This starts the quest “Home Sweet Home”.
Step 2: After interacting with the door you are forced into a looping dream sequence, where you must run through an area and defeat two groups of enemies, followed by an insect boss. During the sequence after the first loop the game will start pushing you to interact with a well in the area at the second group of enemies which is how you escape and complete the quest, but to reach the ending you must ignore the well and keep running through the loop in the same way defeating the miniboss. After completing 4 cycles (defeating all enemies each time), you talk to your family at the start of the 5th cycle and you’ll stay trapped in the dream with them.
How to Escape after the Ending: If you wish to escape afterward, you can reload the autosave from before beating the boss for the 4th time. Where you fought the 2nd group of enemies, inspect the well with Focus Mode (hold L2/LT), it will be highlighted yellow. A voice will talk to you from the well, then you spawn in front of a cave entrance. At the end of the cave you must go through a portal to enter a flashback of the church. Here you must help the priest remember what happened by interacting with the people in correct order in Focus Mode (hold L2/LT): Alin > Esme > Coen > the locked door in church opens, leading to another portal. Then inspect the red glowing tree stump, clawride down to the river and finish the conversation. After this you respawn in the open world. Defeat the enemy that attacks you and loot him for the legendary ring “Astrologer’s Ring”.
Ending 7: Time Runs Out (Bad Ending)
If you take more than 30 in-game days after the Prologue, you will get a cutscene where your family dies in Brencis’s castle. You can trigger this by waiting at a shrine repeatedly to pass 30 days. There is no trophy associated with this ending. You can still free-roam after it.
