Final Fantasy 7 (VII) Remake How to Increase Stagger %

April 10, 2020 by PowerPyx Leave a Comment

In Final Fantasy VII Remake you may wonder how to increase the Stagger percentage over 160%. The game doesn’t explain this mechanic very well. You need to use specific abilities with your characters while the enemy is staggered to increase the stagger bar.

This is how you can increase Stagger in FF7 Remake:

  • Use Tifa’s :triangle: attacks. Her default move “Whirling Uppercut” adds only 5% stagger per hit. You can increase this by buffing Tifa with her ability “Unbridled Strength”. Buffing her once upgrades the move to Omnistrike. Buffing her twice upgrades it to Rise and Fall. The best method is to buff her twice with this before an enemy goes into stagger and have 2 additional ATB segments ready. Then you unleash the Rise and Fall, Omnistrike, Whirling Uppercut, use Unbridled strength twice to buff her again, and repeat.
  • Use Tifa’s “True Strike” ability. It costs 1ATB and adds 30% with each use. This is the fastest move to increase stagger. It requires having found Tifa’s weapon Purple Pain (obtained in Chapter 16).
  • Use Aerith’s Ray of Judgment, it will increase the stagger % quite significantly.

Building up stagger is crucial for boss fights on higher difficulties. Once the stagger is at 250-300% you should use your other character’s strongest attacks (abilities or spells) to deal massive damage. If you couple this with using spells a boss is weak against, you can do insane damage.

Fastest Method to build Stagger: Before the enemy goes into stagger, have Tifa buffed twice with Unbridled Strength and have another 2 ATB bars ready with her. When the boss goes into Stagger you unleash your :triangle: Rise and Fall (+20%), Omnistrike (+25%), use your 2 ATB segments to activate True Strike ability for another +60% stagger (Purple Pain Weapon). This brings the stagger from 160% to 265% in a few seconds. You can keep attacking with :triangle: and when 1 ATB is ready use another True Strike to get it over 300%. Remember to use your other characters’ abilities by pressing :l2: or :r2: while you keep building the stagger with Tifa.

And that’s how stagger works in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, enjoy!
