Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Handsome Charlie Walkthrough

February 9, 2025 by PowerPyx 3 Comments

Handsome Charlie is a side task in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Handsome Charlie side task.

  • Starting Location: Trosky Region > Semine
  • Quest Giver: Gules
  • Requirement: Completed The Jaunt > Canker
  • Reward: Charlie’s Cap, 125 Groschen if you defeat Charlie in a duel and spared the Charcoal Burners (given at start of next quest Johnny the Gob)
  • Quest Type: Task
  • Questline: The Blacksmith’s Son > The Jaunt > (Canker > Handsome Charlie > Johnny the Gob > Casper) > The Hermit > A Sinful Soul
  • Quest Description: After Canker, Handsome Charlie is up next. Gules asks you to defeat Charlie and bring his cap as proof.
  • Missable Warning: This task is double missable. Fail condition #1: missable Side Quest The Jaunt is a prerequisite, must be done before entering the wedding in Main Quest 5: Wedding Crashers. Fail condition #2: in Main Quest 8: Necessary Evil must avoid the raid on Semine, if you tell Bergow that Semine is aiding the bandits then Semine Fortress will be burned down.

Objectives:

  1. Kill Handsome Charlie
  2. Bring Gules Charlie’s Cap

Starting Location: Handsome Charlie

After completing Gule’s previous quest Canker, skip time for 2 days to make a new quest icon appear on the guard named Gules in Semine fortress. Talk to him and exhaust all dialogues to start this task. At day he wears red armor and stands somewhere around Semine Fortress. In the evening he walks wears a green coat and walks around Semine fortress or sleeps in the guardhouse.

Kill Handsome Charlie

Handsome Charlie will be marked if you track the quest objective. He’ll be in the northwest corner of the map, west of Vidlak Pond. It’s far away, if you don’t have a horse yet you should get one from the Semine horse trader.

Make a save before approaching. Don’t draw a weapon, then you can talk to the Charcoal-burner walking around camp. Say “Is Handsome Charlie around here somewhere?” > “I have a message for him from Gules”. He leads you to him. If you walk around the area for too long he will turn hostile.

When talking to Gules there are two outcomes. If you win the skill check he will duel you one against one. This is by far the easier option but requires a high enough speech skill. Saying “You don’t want to look like a coward” is easy to succeed (confirmed at 9 Speech).

If you fail the skill check or pick the third option “Let’s just forget about it, shall we?”, then you need to fight all 5 bandits simultaneously. If you find this too difficult and fail the skill check, then simply talk to other people to increase it. Every line of dialogue increases the speech skill.

If you defeat Charlie in the duel then the other 4 bandits will run away immediately and you don’t need to fight them.

Bring Gules Charlie’s Cap

After defeating Charlie, loot his body for Handsome Charlie’s hat. Feel free to loot his other gear too, his “Hauberk long” and “Padded chausses” are particularly good for so early in the game. You can also go around camp and open the chests to loot more items and Groschen.

Return to Gules in Semine to give him the cap, he will be marked. He lets you keep the cap. He doesn’t reward you with Groschen immediately, but if you defeated Charlie in a duel and spared the Charcoal Burners he gives you 125 Groschen at the start of the next quest Johnny the Gob.

This finishes Handsome Charlie side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Next Quest: Johnny the Gob

If you have the “Noticeable face” skill upgraded and you decide to kill Charlie in a fair duel in front of the charcoal burners, then after a while the reputation of the entire branch of the “Forest People” will drop significantly. I was only able to avoid lowering my reputation after quietly killing at night.

I experienced exactly the same and like you suggested a stealthy night kill was the only way to avoid the issue.

If this was an intended consequence rather than a bug, it’s a bizarre one for sure.

Or at least a poorly justified one.
