February 11, 2025 by PowerPyx 1 Comment

Bird of Prey is a side task in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Bird of Prey side task.

  • Starting Location: Trosky Region > Wilderness
  • Quest Giver: Gamekeeper Vostatek
  • Requirement: Finished side quest Lackey without failing it (must have rescued Vostatek from wolves so he doesn’t die), then talk to Vostatek at his hut
  • Reward: If done before Main Quest 5: Wedding Crashers = 80 Groschen + 1 Strong Aesop + 1 Strong Bowman’s Brew + 3 Dried deer ribs + 1 Marksman’s kit + 1 Cobbler’s kit. If done after Main Quest 5: Wedding Crashers = 175 Groschen.
  • Quest Type: Task
  • Questline: Lackey > Bird of Prey
  • Quest Description: Exterminate the local vermin who are killing poor animals.
  • Missable Warning: If the wolves killed Vostatek in Lackey, then this quest is missed

  2. Tell Vostatek about the poacher from Rocktower Pond
  3. Talk to the tanner about the poacher (Optional)
  4. Talk to the fisherman’s wife about the poachers (Optional)
  5. Deal with the poacher in the forest near Vidlak Pond
  6. Tell Vostatek about the poacher from Vidlak Pond
  7. Ask Varel the gamekeeper about work
  8. Ask the gravedigger about poachers (Optional)
  9. Find out the truth about the poacher in the Slatego forests
  10. Tell Varel about the poacher from Slatego
  11. Ask around in the Lair about poachers (Optional)
  12. Find the poacher in the Lower Semine forests
  13. Wipe out the poaching bandits (Optional)
  14. Find evidence of poaching in the camp
  15. Report the Lower Semine camp to the Gamekeeper
  16. Find out about poaching in the Kopanina forests
  17. Tell Varel about the Kopanina poacher

Starting Location: Bird of Prey

During side quest Lackey you will rescue Gamekeeper Vostatek. At the end of Lackey you travel with him to his hut in the woods. After finishing Lackey you can talk to him anytime to start Bird of Prey. He might not have a gray quest icon on the map, but he will be marked with a named icon “Gamekeeper Vostatek” when fully zooming in on the map. He’s in the woods west of Tachov.

Talk to him and say “Do you have any other troubles?” > “I know what you’re talking about” > “What would you like?” (he gives 125 Groschen) > “I’ll keep it to buy some gear” (you keep 125 Groschen) > “I’ll do it” > “Pity, but you’re the chief” > “I understand” > exhaust all questions and say “I’m off then!” –> this starts the quest

Deal with the poacher in the forest near Rocktower Pond

Rocktower Pond is where your camp got ambushed in Main Quest 2: Easy Riders. It’s southwest of Vostatek’s hut.

You find the poacher almost exactly where the letter “B” is on the map, near the middle of the search area. There’s a small camp there, just up the path from the road. Upon approaching the camp it removes the search area.

Talk to the Rocktower stranger sitting in the camp, he’s only there at day. He’s out hunting from dusk till dawn. Between 8:00 – 16:00 he will be there.

Say to him: “Poaching, are we?” > “You confess?” > (can exhaust the other questions) > “Let’s get to the point” > “What do you propose” (he marks 2 deer hunting spots) > “Alright, but stop poaching”.

Then he leaves Trosky region but you spare his life. This will give a reputation reduction when reporting back to Vostatek, but better to keep people alive whenever possible.

If you were to say “No you’re going to the gallows (Arrest)” then you fast travel to Troskowitz and hand him to the bailiff who hangs him immediately.

Tell Vostatek about the poacher from Rocktower Pond

Regardless of whether you let him go or arrested him, you’ll need to return to the quest giver Vostatek.

Tell him “I dealt with the Rocktower Pond poacher” > “I’ll help” > “I’ll go and find him right away”.

You can talk to the tanner and fisherman’s wife to narrow down the next poacher’s location.

Talk to the tanner about the poacher (Optional)

Talk to Tanner Benesh at Vidlak pond, exhaust all dialogues. He warns you that the fisherman’s wife thinks he’s the poacher but doesn’t have much useful info.

Talk to the fisherman’s wife about the poachers (Optional)

Talk to Vidlak fisherman’s wife at Vidlak pond, exhaust all dialogues. She accuses the tanner, but if you already talked to him the dialogues will slightly change here.

She suggests to check out the tanner’s shop. You can climb through the open window on the back of his shop to inspect the antlers upstairs. Then you can confront him about it, but it’ll lose you reputation and he tells you to go away. He isn’t the true poacher.

Deal with the poacher in the forest near Vidlak Pond

The poacher of Vidlak pond is found in the north of the yellow search area, directly north of the “D” marker. There you will find another camp, the search area goes away when you approach it.

Talk to the Vidlak stranger at the camp, he’s only there at night between 20:00 – 6:00. At day he’s out hunting.

Say “Poaching?” > win the skill check (“The nice way” is easy to succeed) > “Let him go”. This will give negative reputation with Vostatek when returning to him but the poacher survives.

If you say “Arrest him” you’ll fast travel to Troskowitz and hand him to the bailiff who hangs him immediately.

Tell Vostatek about the poacher from Vidlak Pond

Return to quest giver Vostatek, tell him “I dealt with the Vidlak poacher”. He gives 45 Groschen + Weak Aesop + Weak Bowman’s Brew + Survival/Agility XP + Reputation + Marksman’s Kit.

He then sends you to Gamekeeper Varel.

Ask Varel the gamekeeper about work

Gamekeeper Varel is found at Nebakov Mill, in the south of the map.

Tell him “Vostatek sent me here for work” > “Definitely” > exhaust the questions > “I’ll do it”.

Ask the gravedigger about poachers (Optional)

Talk to Gravedigger Ignatius, east of Troskowitz. He mentions there are many wolves in the area.

Find out the truth about the poacher in the Slatego forests

The Slatego poachers camp is in the middle of the yellow search area, a few meters directly north of the “J” marker on the map.

Approach the camp and the search area will narrow down. The poacher won’t be here regardless of the time of day, because he got killed by wolves. We must find his corpse. There might be a wolf at the camp but you can run away from it.

The Slatego poacher’s corpse is at the west edge of the search area, outside the forest, where a Roe hunting spot is. There will be a wolf feeding on his corpse.

If you’re going for the Lent trophy/achievement: DON’T kill the wolves. You can quickly loot the corpse for evidence and run/ride away, or kick the wolves in unarmed combat until they run away. From the corpse loot Poacher’s hunting knife as evidence. He also has a very rare poison Weak Dollmaker poison.

Tell Varel about the poacher from Slatego

Return to Gamekeeper Varel at Nebakov Mill, say “I found the Slatego poacher” > “No chance” > exhaust the questions. This gives the next objective. If you got the poacher’s knife you’ll automatically hand it over as evidence.

Ask around in the Lair about poachers (Optional)

Talk to Bonnie or Hired Hand Zinek at the Lair in the woods, in the north of the search area. Doing this will narrow down the search area.

Find the poacher in the Lower Semine forests

The Lower Semine Poachers are in the middle of the search area, a few meters west of the “L” marker on the map.

There will be 3 bandits in the camp, they are there at any time at day or night. They are hostile and can’t be talked to, will attack on sight if you stay too long.

Wipe out the poaching bandits (Optional)

You have to kill all 3 bandits in the camp. One of them has heavy armor. If you have trouble with this, you can come at night and stealth-kill them while they sleep to make it easier. You can also loot his armor, this is pretty good equipment for so early in the game. Can take his key and open the locked chest as well.

Find evidence of poaching in the camp

Evidence #1: In the south of the search area inspect the skin (near the cooking pot).

Evidence #2: In the southeast edge of the search area inspect the hanging carcass of a deer.

Evidence #3: In the northeast edge of the search area inspect the gutted deer on the floor, in front of a sewage pit.

As evidence that you killed the poachers you can loot Lower Semine poacher’s kit from the armored bandit.

Report the Lower Semine camp to the Gamekeeper

Return to Gamekeeper Varel at Nebakov Mill, say “I know about the lower Semine poachers”, if you looted the poacher’s kit you gain bonus reputation.

The quest can now end in two ways:

  • If you’re already past Main Quest 6: For Whom the Bells Tolls, the quest ends here immediately, the last poacher (who is Sir Hans Capon) is skipped. Reward = 175 Groschen + Vitality XP.
  • If you’re still in Main Quest 5: Wedding Crashers (before entering the wedding), you get an extra objective “Find out about poaching in the Kopanina forests”. Reward at end = 80 Groschen + 1 Strong Aesop + 1 Strong Bowman’s Brew + 3 Dried deer ribs + 1 Marksman’s kit + 1 Cobbler’s kit.

For the quest completion it doesn’t matter if you do it before or after the wedding, the quest is completed either way.

[Only if you’re before the wedding] Find out about poaching in the Kopanina forests

The Kopanina poacher is north of Trosky Castle. You find his camp at the west edge of the search area, directly to the west of the objective letter on the map. Below the cliffs next to the road.

There you find Sir Hans Capon at day after 9:00 AM. You can skip time in 1 hour increments until he shows up. Exhaust all dialogues with him. Obviously you can’t arrest or kill him since he’s your lord. So you’ll have to return to Varel and make up a lie. Sir Hans gives you Capon’s poaching kit which you can give to Varel as proof that you caught the poacher.

[Only if you’re before the wedding] Tell Varel about the Kopanina poacher

Return to Gamekeeper Varel at Nebakov Mill, say “I killed him (Lie)”, then you show Capon’s poaching kit and he believes you. The quest is done.

This finishes Bird of Prey side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

If you go to the well to the west of the search area, you can find a trap door under a tree and by rocks that will have Vidlak Pond poachers gear in it and you can have mutt track the poacher with it.
