Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Hunger and Despair Walkthrough

February 3, 2025 by PowerPyx 4 Comments

Hunger and Despair is the 29th main quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Hunger and Despair main story quest.

Ask Janosh for food (Optional)

The quest starts on the 25th day of the siege. Supplies are running low, everyone is hungry. A hungry Capon wants you to fetch him food. You can talk to Janosh, he’ll be marked by the “B” objective, should be in the kitchen.

However, Janosh doesn’t have any food left.

Bring Capon something to eat

There are multiple ways to solve this:

Method #1: After talking to Janosh, you can talk to Capon again, say you didn’t find food, and tell him you won’t be bringing him food. Then the objective ends immediately and the next two cutscenes begin.

Method #2: You can find wine in some of the locked chests inside the castle. Go to the room opposite your bedroom where von Bergow was held, the medium difficulty chest contains wine. On the top floor (above your bedroom) there’s another medium difficulty chest in front of a bed that contains more wine. You only need to give 1 wine to Capon to finish the objective.

Method #3 – THIS VOIDS trophy Lent, IT WILL COUNT AS EATING MEAT!: You can talk to Musa and the others in the inner courtyard at the gate. They will suggest you use the fine lamb leather from shoes to make a soup. You then get a bonus objective to “Borrow the shoes from Lady Frenzl’s chest”. It will be marked, same floor as your bedroom. At the end of the hall (same side as your bedroom) you find a hard difficulty chest that contains the Lambskin shoes (also has saviour schnapps). You then bring the shoes back to Musa to make shoe broth. Capon will complain it stinks like boiled farts, but he eats it anyway. IMPORTANT: even if you don’t eat the shoe soup yourself but give it to Capon, it will increase your “Meat eaten” counter by +1 (Player > Statistics > General). This voids trophy Lent. The logic behind this being that the leather on the shoes came from animal skin, so it’s “technically” dried meat. If you want the trophy go with one of the first method.

No matter how you do it, it will trigger a cutscene where you bury the dead. Godwin will say a prayer (doesn’t matter which one you pick). Then another cutscene begins the next raid.

Get the enemies off the walls / Knock the ladders off the ramparts

After the cutscenes, you must defend the north wall from another wave of attacks. Push down the 4 ladders. Don’t rush in, defeat the enemies before moving to the next ladder, otherwise they will hit you from behind. If you don’t have a halberd to push the ladders, you can grab it from the weapons rack on the north wall.

After pushing the 4 ladders you get another cutscene where crossbowmen breach the tower. You must defeat them.

Break down the door to the tower!

Press :x: / :a: on the tower door to break it, defeat all enemies in the tower. Then you must defend the next wall.

Open the entrance to the tower for our allies (Optional) / Knock the ladders down from the rear wall! / Eliminate the enemies in the tower and on the wall (Optional)

Go downstairs in the tower and clear out the remaining enemies, open the door connected to the inner courtyard. More of your allies then come to help. In the meantime your allies should take care of the enemies on the walls and push the ladders automatically.

Another cutscene will start where the enemies are falling back. Then you talk with your remaining allies. Zizka orders you and Samuel to ride out to get reinforcements. Katherine storms out because she’s fed up with all the pointless killing just for some silver that will be used to wage more war.

Say goodbye to Katherine (Optional)

Katherine will be at the “L” marker, she’ll be crying in the inner courtyard. If you talk to Zizka first he tells you Katherine’s backstory and it unlocks a new dialogue with her. Exhaust the available dialogues. Afterward you can talk again to let her treat your wounds, this refills your health.

Say goodbye to Capon (Optional)

Sir Hans Capon Romance: Capon will be at the “M” marker. He should sit on his bed. Here you can conclude the romance with Capon and kiss him: “The black knight?” > “How does their story end?” > “(Kiss Him)”.

You may need to have picked the “heart” icon dialogues with him throughout the game (I also brought him food in previous quest). If you followed the walkthrough for every quest you should have the kiss option available. Capon and Henry then have sex and spend the night together. The quest ends after their romance cutscene.

Finish what you need to do and then wait on the ramparts

If you don’t finish the romance with Hans, you can go to the ramparts, look at the floor in the corner and hold :x: / :a: to “wait” which ends the quest.

This finishes Hunger and Despair main quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Next Quest: Reckoning

If you decided to romance Katherine fully, first talk to Zizka about her past, then say goodbye to her and exhaust all dialogue with her. Finally, wait at the ramparts and this will trigger the her romance scene. If you decided to fully romance Capon and triggered that scene, you will be locked out of Katherine’s romance scene.

There are some chests with food items in the whole castle territory, even in some with weapons in armouries

There is another way to get some food: go to the alchemist bench (room left of infirmery) and make/brew some moonshine.
