Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 The King’s Gambit Walkthrough

February 3, 2025 by PowerPyx 9 Comments

The King’s Gambit is the 19th main quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The King’s Gambit main story quest.

Find out how to get to the City Council from Master Vavak

Go to the Kuttenberg city hall at day, talk to the guard outside. Say “I have an appointment”, then you can enter freely.

Inside, talk to Ulrich Vavak of Neuhaus. What dialogues you pick doesn’t matter, he’ll always tell you how to get into the council meeting. You need to stand in for one of the waiters. This requires stealing the waiter’s certificate and clothes.

Obtain the king’s waiter’s certificate / Obtain the king’s waiter’s clothes

Both the certificate and clothes are obtained by talking to Franta Kuldaun. His location varies by time of day so check the red map marker “C“. It might show a yellow search area in the market but you can ignore that, the “C” marker shows Franta’s exact location. He’s wearing green robes.

If you have trouble locating him, skip time in 1 hour increments until he moves to a different spot. In the evening after 18:00 he’s usually at inns. Make a save before talking to him, you’ll want to win skill checks here, it helps to wear heavy armor or charismatic clothes.

Exhaust the dialogues with him: “I’ll do the job” > win the skill check (“I have important news for the King” tends to succeed easily when wearing armor). If the skill checks fail you can say “Don’t worry about it, how much do you want?”. Then you get a charisma skill check “Think about it as an investment” (should succeed easily with charismatic clothes).

If you succeed a skill check he hands over the certificate/clothes which starts the next objective. If it fails he’ll want 1000 Groschen, it’d be cheaper to buy charismatic clothes to win the skill check than to pay him. Or you can pickpocket the clothes from him, or choke him out at night and loot it off his body.

Report for duty / Infiltrate the City Council

Equip the waiter’s outfit:

  • Head: Royal waiter’s hat
  • Body: Royal waiter’s coat
  • Legs: The trousers of a royal waiter

Unequip anything else, especially weapons.

Then talk to scribe Majordomo. At day he’ll be in the scribe’s office in the northwest corner of Kuttenberg market.

If you’re not wearing the waiter’s outfit he won’t let you proceed. Tell him “I’m the new royal waiter” > “He’s drunk” > “I’ll be happy to learn” > “Stay in the background” > “I understand everything” > “I know what I need (wait for the City Council to convene)”.

It will skip to the council meeting.

Serve the Kuttenberg councillors

You will now be at the council meeting. It goes on for about 20 minutes, during this time you must serve the guests wine and fulfill their other requests. If you don’t do this, then after 8 minutes you get a game over screen (Mojordomo comes and kicks you out of the meeting). Saving is disabled during this. If you ignore people’s requests too often, Henry will say you must do better or risk blowing your cover, that’s how you know you’re close to the game over screen. After enough time passed a cutscene will start.

There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Don’t serve wine to Adam of Zarzitz. He causes issues when drunk. If he requests wine reply with :r1: / :rb: and say “I’m forbidden“.
  • To everyone else you must serve wine on request. They will ask for red or white wine. The wine pitchers are in the corner where you spawn.
  • When someone requests wine, the :l1: / :lb: prompt will appear in the bottom right corner to “look”. This zooms in on the person so you know who to serve. With :r1: / :rb: you can ask which wine they want. Turn subtitles on and get closer to the person, it can be difficult to hear from afar with all councillors talking over each other.
  • Pick up the correct wine pitcher, walk to the person, hold :l1: / :lb: to get the “Pour wine” prompt. Put the pitcher back and wait for the next person to make a request.
  • Tokaji = White Wine
  • Monastery / Monastic = Red Wine

Some guests will make special requests that trigger new objectives, see below.

Councillor Request: Bailiff Andreas Plumel – Bring the confiscated goblet to Bailiff Plumel

Bailiff Andreas Plumel asks you to come closer to talk. He doesn’t want wine, instead requests you to bring his goblet.

Go up the small stairs in the corner. This leads to an office, on the table pick up the Stolen cup, bring this to the Bailiff.

Councillor Request: Franz Rosenthal – Find and bring Franz Rosenthal’s gloves

Franz Rosenthal will call you over. Say “I’ll go get them” to help him find his gloves.

Enter the room near the wine pitchers, there on the lectern will be white gloves “Lambskin gloves“. Bring those to him.

Doesn’t matter how many winged creatures you say were on the murals, since he doesn’t know the answer himself.

After Council Meeting – Playing as Father Godwin

After passing enough time at the council meeting, you get a cutscene where Sigismund arrives. Then you continue playing the quest as Father Godwin in Raborsch where Wenceslas’ supporters meet.

When talking to Capon exhaust the question-dialogues: “Do you know any of the guests?” > “Who’s that Frenchman?” > “What’s it like to be free?” > “What are you going to do now?”.

Meet Brabant

Vauquelin Brabant stands at the window in the northeast corner of the building where you spawn. Exhaust all dialogues with him.

Get to know the rabbi and his escort

Talk to Samuel in the south corner of the same building. Exhaust all dialogues.

Talk to Liechtenstein

After talking to Brabant and Samuel, a cutscene will start. The lords at Raborsch disagree on how to proceed against Sigismund.

Then you talk to John of Liechtenstein. Exhaust all dialogues in any order, you can’t say anything wrong here. He sends Godwin to gain support of 3 nobles: Botscheck of Kunstadt, Haman Alder, Anna of Waldstein.

Luckily, they are all here in the same building so we don’t need to go far.

Get support from Haman Alder

Haman Alder is found in the next room, in the left corner after entering.

Exhaust all dialogues, it doesn’t matter what you say. It’s revealed that the man sitting next to him, Martin Oderin, is Godwin’s father. His other son Christopher (your brother) will challenge you to a duel. Even if you say you want to resolve the situation peacefully or refuse to fight, he’ll fight you anyway.

Take on Christoper in a duel

Christopher will duel you outside in the yard. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose. He’ll talk to you after.

Talk to Christopher

Exhaust all dialogues. He’ll automatically agree to help you, regardless of what dialogues you pick or whether you won or lost the duel. There’s no way to mess anything up here.

Get support from Botschek of Kunstadt

Botschek of Kunstadt will be downstairs in the pub. Exhaust all dialogues. He wants to marry his daughter to a powerful house. Recommend Sir Hans Capon, he will accept this. There’s no way to mess up the dialogue, regardless of what you pick the choices will always narrow down to Sir Hans.

Then talk to Hanush of Leipa in the courtyard. Again it doesn’t matter what you say, he always agrees to the marriage.

Talk to Botschek once more to tell him the marriage is agreed.

Get support from Anna of Waldstein

Anna of Waldstein sits at the window upstairs, next to Samuel and Rabbi Jehuda. It’s the first room where you spawned in, where you talked to Liechtenstein. Unlike the others, she won’t be marked.

What dialogues you pick doesn’t matter, she’ll always request your help with switching out incriminating papers in the saddlebags of Alder.

Swap out the documents in the saddlebags

Go downstairs to the courtyard, enter the door behind the stables. Aim at the saddle and hold :x: / :a: to switch out the papers. If you’re seen, the stablehand will come to shush you away, but you can win the skill check and he’ll leave you be.

Return to Anna afterward and she’ll become an ally.

Talk to Liechtenstein about the arranged support

Talk to Liechtenstein in the same room where Anna is. Afterward you get a cutscene where all lords unite against Sigismund. And a sad Capon learns that he’s getting married.

The game then switches back to Henry at the Kuttenberg city council.

Serve King Sigismund of Luxembourg

Henry will now be alone with King Sigismund and Markvart von Aulitz. Listen carefully and serve Sigismund when he requests wine.

Remember: Monastic wine = red, Tokaji wine = white.

If you disobey or ignore the orders, it results in a game over screen and you get kicked out the meeting.

In my case he first requested Monastic wine (red). Pick up the pitcher like you did before, :l1: / :lb: to aim at him and :x: / :a: to pour the drink. Stand back in the corner and keep listening.

When he says “all this business is making me thirsty, pour me a red”, pour him another red wine. When he drinks to your health reply :r1: / :rb: and thank him.

Markvard will say “pour the king red wine” but Sigismund wants white wine this time. So pour him white wine. You then get a dialogue cutscene where the king wants to drink with you, you can say “To victory!”.

Another cutscene follows that takes you back to Raborsch and starts the next main quest.

This finishes The King’s Gambit main quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

It’s bugged in general, it’s bugged for myself on the white wine instead.

Bugged for me too. Unless I’m doing something wrong, I couldn’t go through the doorways to complete either of the outside objectives. Tried it with and without wine, after opening and closing the doors, and after a reload, nothing worked.

I found everything worked fine as long as I stood in front of Siggie’s table with the white wine carafe in my hands. I might get a request for red but as soon as I poured it I would immediately go back to grab the white and stand in the same place again. Don’t know why, but it worked.

When getting the goblet during – Councilor Request: Bailiff Andreas Plumel. There is a dagger on the table in the top right of the screenshot that you can pocket. Later when King Sigismund arrives during – Serve King Sigismund of Luxembourg, you can assassinate him to end the game.

Why shouldn’t you serve to Adam. To fail the council is what you want. Yet no one explains what the heck happen if you DO serve him. So is it even important? I did serve the guy and NOTHING happened. He only went to jail for month because he was shouting at king. That is all WTF.

If you make too many mistakes you get a game over screen and have to redo the council meeting. Serving Adam counts as a mistake. Majordomo explains this to you, kinda self-explanatory at that point if you don’t skip the dialogues. Serving him a few times won’t instantly fail the mission, but if you repeatedly fail to serve other guests / serve wrong wine / serve Adam wine you will eventually fail the quest.

No prompts to do anything. Can pick up pitchers is all.
