Breaking Even is a Side Quest in Horizon Forbidden West (HZFW). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Breaking Even side mission.
Location: Camp Nowhere
Quest Giver: Porguf
Quest Level: Level 18
Requirement: None, find the quest location in the world
Reward: 4500 XP, 2 Skill Points
Mission Info: The collapse of an ancient tunnel has cut off passage to No Man’s Land. Aloy must find a way through.
Objectives:
- Go to the Tunnel
- Kill the Machines
- Investigate the tunnel
- Pull out the debris
- Kill the Rockbreaker
- Recover Porguf’s Lockbox [Optional] –> IMPORTANT: This is mandatory to unlock Errand “Broken Locks” and to get 100% game completion. Missing it will void 100% completion.
- Find an Entrance to the eastern site of the canyon
- Destroy the obstruction
- Return to Porguf
Starting Location: Camp Nowhere
Go to the Tunnel
In Camp Nowhere you can find Porguf at the blacksmith workstation. He will tell you about a tunnel that collapsed and asks you for help with it. While you are at it, he also wants you to recover his lockbox. Head to the tunnel not far from your location.
Kill the Machines / Investigate the tunnel / Pull out the debris
Inside the tunnel use the Firegleam on your left to blow up the wall so you have access to further parts of the tunnel. You will have to kill a bunch of smaller machines inside the tunnel, but it shouldn’t cause any trouble. Once you have dealt with the machines use your Pullcaster ( 
+ 
> hold 
) on the debris at the opposite side of where you came from to move further.
Kill the Rockbreaker
Once you reach fresh air you will have to defeat a Rockbreaker who caused all the chaos here. After dealing with it, make sure to check out the loot boxes in the area to find the one Poguf asked you about.
Recover Porguf’s Lockbox [Optional]
After defeating the Rockbreaker, head towards the 3rd broken bridge segment. Just before the 3rd broken bridge piece you can find Porguf’s Lockbox. This is an optional objective. Be sure to loot it!
IMPORTANT: This is mandatory to unlock Errand “Broken Locks” and to get 100% game completion. Missing it will void 100% completion. Definitely make sure you loot Porguf’s Lockbox to fulfill this optional requirement!
Find an entrance to the eastern side of the canyon / Destroy the obstruction
Now keep on going and find the entrance to the second tunnel. Inside you will have to shoot the barrels with fire arrows to blow up the wall. If you don’t have any weapon with fire ammo you can buy a fire bow in Chainscrape (the 1st major town in the very north of the map). You might recognize where you are now if you did Talanah’s quest before this one.
Return to Porguf
Finally return to Porguf to let him know about your work, get your reward and give him the box he asked for.
