The Blood Choke is a Side Quest in Horizon Forbidden West (HZFW). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Blood Choke side mission.
Location: Thornmarsh

Quest Level: Level 27
Requirement: None, find the quest start in the world
Reward: 9000 XP, 2 Skill Points, Tenakth Reaver Armor
Mission Info: A river that feeds into waters around Thornmarsh remains polluted by red algae, sickening the Lowland Tenakth. Why hasn’t it cleared up?
Objectives:
- Follow Atekka
- Follow the Red River
- Kill The Machines / Talk to Atekka
- Climb up the Waterfall
- Kill the Rebels and Their Machine
- Investigate the Rebel Camp
- Destroy the Dam
- Talk to Atekka at Thornmarsh
Starting Location: Thornmarsh
Follow Atekka / Follow the Red River
Follow Atekka to river feed. Once there Aloy takes the lead – keep following the river upstream all the time.
Kill the Machines / Talk to Atekka
Shortly you will reach an area with Tenakth fighting Machines. Aid them in the battle and talk to Atekka afterward.
Climb up the Waterfall
You will have to climb up the waterfall to reach a Rebel Camp at the top. Start climbing on the right side of the waterfall, head towards the waterfall itself. From there it is only one way you can take.
Kill the Rebels and their Machine
At the top you will have to kill every Rebel in the Camp as well as a Fireclaw that Rebels have overridden.
Investigate the Camp
Now you will have to investigate the camp by scanning certain spots to figure out what the Rebels were up to. Scan the device in front of the dam and the scrap pile next to it.
Afterward head to the upper level, to the right of the dam and check the message as well as the big ballista.
Destroy the Dam
In order to destroy the dam use the Pullcaster to open up a spot with explosives and Atekka will shoot the spot with the ballista to blow it up.
Talk to Atekka at Thornmarsh
The river is now clean again. Head back to Thornmarsh and talk to Atekka to get your reward.
