Do we need to scan all the variants to for the trophy that requires all machines scanned?

No, only 1 single variant for trophy purposes 🙂
The other variants count towards 100% game completion though (but not necessary for any trophy).

The machine isn’t marked on the map but I found shock canister burrowers directly south of The Bulwark and a little up north from the Sunken Cavern: Sheerside Mountains.

Purgewater variant is found north of Salt Bite at the charger site

Can confirm what @Chris said about the Apex Purgewater variant. Now just need plain Shock variant.

OK, I found a location for the Shock Burrowers. If you draw a line on your map from The Bulwark directly south to the entrance of the Sheerside Mountain Sunken Cavern, and go north from the cavern along that line, about 40% of the way to The Bulwark there is a “diamond-ish” spot on the map. Obviously take a Sunwing if you have it.

It is an unmarked location, but a pretty decent variety of machines will spawn. One other thing to note, it appears the (any) machines will only spawn there if you DON’T have a Custom difficulty set. I set mine to Story, and it took me five reloads to get one to spawn. Good Luck!

I don’t know, Jerry. What is the deal with tracker burrowers?

There are three Cannisters Burrower sites I used to scan all variants. Just buy a bunch of fast travel packs and cycle between them. The first is to the north east of Hidden Ember, the second is just south west of Rebel Outpost Dry Yearn, and the third is north of Stone Cress.

Remember that multiple variants can spawn at one location, so be sure to scan them all, and Apex variants have higher chances of spawning at night.
