The Oldgrowth is an Errand Quest in Horizon Forbidden West (HZFW). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the The Oldgrowth side mission.
Location: Plainsong
Quest Giver: Shael
Quest Level: Level 15
Requirement: Unlocks after finishing Side Quest: The Second Verse
Reward: 2500 XP, 1 Skill Point, Utaru Harvester Face Paint
Mission Info: An Utaru hunting party was slaughtered by a Clawstrider in The Oldgrowth. The forest won’t be safe until the machine is dealt with.
Objectives:
- Go to The Oldgrowth
- (Talk to the Survivor – optional)
- Kill the Machines
- Recover the Utaru Hunters’ Seed Pouches
- Kill the Machines / Examine the Crevice
- Kill the Clawstrider / Talk to the Utaru Hunter
- Return to Shael
Starting Location: Plainsong
Go to The Oldgrowth / Talk to the Survivor
After finishing Side Quest: The Second Verse, a new Errand Quest will appear in Plainsong. Talk to Shael and you will find out about a group of hunters being attacked by a Clawstrider in The Oldgrowth. Four of them apparently died and the one who survived is being healed at the moment. Before you head out you can talk to the survivor to hear what happened exactly. Once you are done with the talking head to The Oldgrowth.
Kill the Machines
When you arrive you will first have to take care of a group of Apex Scrappers patrolling the area. You can use the bushed to kill them silently.
Recover the Utaru Hunters’ Seed Pouches / Follow the Tracks
You will find the first Seed Pouch of one of the dead hunters in this area. Afterward, scan the area with your Focus and follow the tracks to the second one, then to the third one and finally to the location of where the 4th hunter escaped to.
Kill the Machines / Examine the Crevice
In the next area you will have to kill a group of Skydrifters first. Once you kill them head to the crevice and you will find out the 4th hunter is still alive. He managed to outrun the Clawstrider and hid in this cave.
Kill the Clawstrider / Talk to the Utaru Hunter
Aloy wants to search for the Clawstrider but instead the Apex Clawstrider appears in the area, just as you’re about to leave. With the hunter’s aid kill the Clawstrider and talk to the Hunter afterward who will gift you a weapon for your help.
Return to Shael
Finally, head back to Shael to report your mission was successful.
