In Horizon Forbidden West (HZFW), Anomalous Growth are red crystals in the environment that block off secret paths. They are also called Firegleam and get marked on the map when nearby. However, when scanning them before unlocking the Igniter they are called “Anomalous Growth”. Then after you unlock the Igniter their name changes to “Firegleam”. They are found on walls and rocks and look like red crystals. They usually contain a valuables chest or resource chest behind them.
Here’s what they look like and where one is found:
To destroy them you need the Igniter tool. It’s a story-related automatic unlock that you get from Main Quest 5: Death’s Door – Objective: Ignite the Firegleam. During this part of the story you will have to craft the Igniter, can’t miss it.
After getting the Ignitor from the story you can use it with 
to destroy the Firegleams. Step back after using it, because the Firegleam will explode after a few seconds which can hurt your health.
