The Bristlebacks a Side Quest in Horizon Forbidden West (HZFW). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Bristlebacks side mission.
Location: Chainscrape
Quest Giver: Ulvund
Quest Level: Level 7
Requirement: Appears on the map after arriving in Chainscrape for the first time, but cannot be completed in full until after “The Embassy” main quest has been completed.
Reward: 2330xp, 2 Skill Points
Mission Info: Bristlebacks have run rampant in the Daunt. But how did they get into the valley in the first place?
Objectives:
- Talk to the Carja Magistrate
- Search West of the Quarry for Bristlebacks
- Follow the Trail to the Back of the Valley
- Enter the Mine
- Kill the Machines
- Investigate the Smoking Tunnel
- Return to Javad the Willing
- Find the Source of the Bristlebacks Beyond Barren Light (must have finished the 4th story quest “The Embassy”)
- Search North of Barren Light for the Rebel Camp
- Find an Entrance to the Rebel Machine Pens
- Kill the Rebels and their Machines
- Investigate the Cave
- Return to Javad the Willing
Starting Location: Chainscrape
Talk to the Carja Magistrate
Go the nearby Tavern and talk to Javad the Willing.
Search West of the Quarry for Bristlebacks
Travel to the Quarry where you will find a dead Bristleback by the waterfall, examine it.
Follow the Trail to the Back of the Valley
After examining the dead Bristleback, go further up the trail in to the valley to find the entrance to a mine.
Enter the Mine
Now enter the mine and follow the linear path through, going right when Aloy mentions the tracks are collapsed.
Kill the Machines
You will come to a room with 2 Bristlebacks, you have to take them out.
Investigate the Smoking Tunnel
After killing the Bristlebacks, proceed up the broken tracks on the right of the room in to a tunnel filled with smoke. Just as you enter, drop down a small hole to the left that’s filled with blaze barrels and read the note here.
Return to Javad the Willing
Leave the mine the way you came in and return to Javad at the tavern in Chainscrape.
Find the Source of the Bristlebacks Beyond Barren Light
You will automatically complete this objective once you finish the 4th main quest “The Embassy“.
Search North of Barren Light for the Rebel Camp
After finishing the previously mentioned main quest you will be tasked with going to a rebel camp.
Find an Entrance to the Rebel Machine Pens
Make your way to the pens just directly ahead here.
Kill the Rebels and Their Machines
Kill all the rebels and machines in the area, use your focus to find them all if you need to.
Investigate the Cave
After killing all rebels and machines, just further up from here is a drawbridge, lower it.
Now then shoot the rope holdings on each side of the other half, cross it to enter the cave.
Return to Javad the Willing
A short scene will play, then you will have to retutn to Javad in the Chainscrape tavern, fast travel. Talk to him and the quest will be complete.
