Starting Location: The Base

Go to AETHER’s Coordinates

Make your way to AETHER’s Coordinates, scanning, and engaging or ignoring machines.

Enter the Tenakth Stronghold

At the location, approach the guards at the entrance to trigger a cutscene.

Go to the Throne Room – Watch the Visions (Optional)

Follow Dekka to the throne room to speak with Chief Hekarro.

If you’d like, you can stop by the hologram to know more about the Visions. When you get to the throne room, select “I’m ready to see the Chief” when prompted.

During the cutscene, Aloy will discover the location of AETHER, but Chief Hekarro asks for Aloy’s help to defend the Kulrut, a society of clans, and in return he will grant her access to AETHER.

Time to go north to convince the Sky Clan to cooperate with the Chief.

Talk to Dekka

Exit the throne room and go back to Dekka at the stronghold entrance to continue. She will give you a new weapon to aid you in your mission, the Cleaving Sharpshot Bow.

Meet Kotallo at Stone Crest

Make your way to Stone Crest, and as usual, scan any new machine along the way, and engage or ignore them.

At the location, you will distrustfully be granted access into Stone Crest. Once the two guards have granted you access, use the wooden scaffolding to venture into the heart of the settlement, then join Kotallo by the cliffside.

Follow Kotallo – Kill Regalla’s Rebels (Optional)

Follow Kotallo to continue on.

As you follow him, you will have the option to kill Regalla’s rebels. The Rebels are weak to Acid, so use your Acid Arrows to quickly dispose of them, especially those carrying a laser shield.

Talk to Kotallo

When you reach your destination, talk to Kotallo.

Follow Kotallo

Once you’ve been granted access inside the Bulwark, resume following Kotallo.

Talk to the Guard

Once you reach the top, talk to the standing guard. He will give us access to Tekotteh’s throne room. Tekotteh doesn’t want to send his challengers to help Hekarro and will only do so once the Bulwark’s walls can no longer hold. Aloy, however, has a back-up plan: destroying the Bulwark itself to convince Tekotteh that maybe he should reconsider!

Go to the Bottom of the Bulwark

Go all the way back you came from, to the bottom of the lift you used to enter the Bulwark.

Go to the Observation Point

Just a few meters north from the lift is the Observation Point.

Scan the Bulwark

From the observation point, activate your Focus and look for some orange, ancient debris. Check the screenshots below for the map location and the object to highlight with the Focus.

Find a Path up the Bulwark

Time to climb up the Bulwark. Go to your new quest marker and climb the wall (use Focus to see the yellow climb points), then pry the rock wall open to proceed further.

Investigate the Passage

Continue along the passage until you reach a frozen lake.

Scan the Ancient Debris

From here, activate your Focus to scan the ancient debris again. Time to go back to Kotallo to fill him in on our findings.

Talk to Kotallo

Make your way back to the observation point where Kotallo is awaiting you and talk to him.

Find a Cannon

Now we need a cannon to be able to access that piece of debris. Some Rebels, stationed up north, may have what we’re looking for. Not an easy feat, though, as the cannon we need is part of a Tremortusk, a giant elephant-looking machine whose main weakness is Frost.

Kill the Tremortusk and the Rebels

First off, stay crouched in the grass and stealthily get rid of any rebels. Ideally, you don’t want to startle the Tremortusk.

Once you’ve gotten rid of all the rebels, we need to take care of the Tremortusk.

Since its main weakness is Frost, you might want to prioritize the Frost Blastsling. Try to sneak up on him and once you’re close enough for the Blastsling to hit it, release any bomb you’ve got. Once you’ve weakened it, finish him off by shooting arrows at its weak points (highlighted in yellow). Another great way to deal considerable damage to the Tremortusk is with a well-placed Tear Precision Arrow to its Blaze Sac (bottom part of the Tremortusk).

Now finish off any remaining rebels.

Loot the Tremortusk

Now approach the Tremortusk to loot it, including its cannon. Kotallo will volunteer to bring the cannon back to the Bulwark.

Return to the Bulwark

Make your way back to the Bulwark.

Destroy the Bulwark – Use the Cannon

Grab the cannon by pressing :square: .

Destroy the Bulwark – Shoot the Weak Point

Aim for the weak point as indicated by the quest marker, then press :r2: to shoot the cannon. Shoot at the weak point several times to trigger a new cutscene. Tekotteh will now give in and send his challengers to the Kulrut.

This finishes The Broken Sky Main Quest in Horizon Forbidden West.

On the scan the bulwark objective there is a glitch atm where there is a boulder in front of the small rocks you can pry, which keeps aloy from proceeding into the tunnel. Currently going through this right now.
