Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Ars Dimicatoria Walkthrough

February 11, 2025 by Gage Leave a Comment

Ars Dimicatoria is a side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Ars Dimicatoria side mission.

  • Starting Location: Kuttenberg Region > Kuttenberg City
  • Quest Giver: Menhard van Frankfurt
  • Requirement: Complete Main Quest 14: Speak of the Devil
  • Reward: Master Menhart’s longsword, bed at Swordfighting Hall
  • Quest Type: Side Quest
  • Questline: Ars Dimicatoria > (Kuttenberg Tournament > Mark of the Brotherhood > Last Will)
  • Quest Description: In Kuttenberg, I met a master swordsman and engaged in a friendly duel with him. It turned out, it’s not that easy in Kuttenberg to practice the art of swordsmanship, or Schwertkunst, also known by the scholarly name of Ars Dimicatoria.

Objectives:

  1. Talk to Menhard at the inn
  2. Steal the Kutternberg brotherhood’s sword
  3. Display the sword on the Town Hall outer wall
  4. Return to Menhard
  5. Become a member of the swordfighting brotherhood
  6. Tell Menhard when you are ready for the duel with the Kuttenbergers
  7. Compete against the Kuttenbergers
  8. Go to the yellow corner and wait for the duel to start
  9. Fight!
  10. Wait a few days until Menhard takes over the swordfighting hall
  11. See Menhard

Starting Location: Ars Dimicatoria

To start this quest, go to the street corner north of Iron Eagle Tavern during the day where you can find Menhard van Frankfurt attempting to challenge people to a sword fight.

Approach him and agree to the fight. After either him or you take a certain amount of damage you will be stopped by some angry men who don’t want you sword-fighting in the street. After the scene, you can pass a skill check to calm down the other men.

Whether or not you intervene determines where you meet Menhard for the first step of the quest as he may be banished from town, but the rest of the quest is the same.

Talk to Menhard at the inn

Depending on what happened before starting the quest, you will need to meet Menhard at the inn just west of Kuttenberg, or the Emperor Charles Tavern in the city.

Steal the Kutternberg brotherhood’s sword

Menhard wants you to steal the brotherhood’s sword and hang it above the guild hall. He recommends doing this at night, which is the best option to avoid being seen. The hall is located in the southwestern corner of the city.

The front door of the hall is a Very Hard locked door, so if you don’t have a high enough level to just lockpick your way in you can first go through the yard to the right and over some stacked logs to reach the back yard of the hall.

Be careful as some people will sometimes walk through the yard and can spot you. You will then need to lockpick either of the Hard locked doors on the back or side of the building to get inside.

Make your way up to the second floor, then through the door on the right.

In the room at the head of the table you can steal the Guild longsword off the wall.

Display the sword on the Town Hall outer wall

Now leave the guild hall (if there is nobody near you can just walk out the front door without issue, or go out the back of the yard over some more stacked logs) and make your way over to the town hall.

Wait for a guard not to be standing directly beside, then interact with the wall to place the sword.

Return to Menhard

You can then make your way back to the inn and let Menhard know you’ve placed the sword. You will automatically go with him to the town hall. Agree with him in the conversation to confirm you will help in their duels.

Become a member of the swordfighting brotherhood

You will need to become a member of the brotherhood to participate with them in the duels. If you beat Menhard in the initial duel before the quests starts you can join immediately, but if you didn’t you will have to beat him first before you can swear the oath.

Tell Menhard when you are ready for the duel with the Kuttenbergers

Once you have sworn the oath you have some time to prepare if needed (practice sword fighting, increase your skill level, learn new longsword techniques, prepare potions). Speak with him when ready to go to the spot to participate in the duels.

Compete against the Kuttenbergers

You will fight in three sets of duels, best of three against each member of the Kuttenberg guild. You will also have to wait in between while your other guild members complete their duels.

Go to the yellow corner and wait for the duel to start

When it is your turn you will need to go to the yellow corner to start the duel. This is your opportunity to use potions if you have any and they will carry into the duel itself. You can also save before the duel starts, as long as you are not in active combat. In between each duel, you can head to the bathmaid if needed, or repair your armor or weapons in the tent opposite.

Fight!

Linhart and Emmeram are both notably weaker than Menhard is so requiring you to beat him to be in the brotherhood in the first place means you have already beaten a tougher opponent. Master Nicholas is the strongest by far, so you should be careful fighting him as he will perform master strikes and quickly counter just like Menhard did. Try to perform master strikes to take him down quickly.

Wait a few days until Menhard takes over the swordfighting hall

After your victory, you will need to wait a few days until Menhard takes over the hall. You can complete other tasks, or just pass time by waiting and sleeping.

See Menhard

Once three days have passed, the objective will update and you can go speak with Menhard at the swordfighting hall, completing the quest.

This finishes Ars Dimicatoria side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
