Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 The Best for Last Walkthrough

The Best for Last is a task in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the The Best for Last side task.

• Quest Description: There’s supposedly a grandmaster fighter living in Kopanina. If I challenge him to a fight I might win his title.

Objectives:

1. Find the Trosky grandmaster
2. Challenge the herbalist Barnaby to a fight
3. Defeat grandmaster Barnaby

Starting Location: The Best for Last

This quest is started automatically after completing Wine, Woman and Blood once you speak with Innkeeper Lawrence about beating all three opponents.

Find the Trosky grandmaster

Innkeeper Lawrence tells you about the Trosky grandmaster, the best fighter in the region. He doesn’t give the correct name, but the location you need to go to is Herbalist Barnaby, which is a point of interest located at the end of the path leading into the forest directly north of Trosky Castle. Head to his house and speak with him.

Challenge the herbalist Barnaby to a fight

You can challenge him to a fight after asking him about being the grandmaster. If you want to win this fight, consider making a save before challenging him, as he only allows one attempt regardless of how you do, though this isn’t required to “complete” the task and earn the trophy depending on your dialogue choices after.

Defeat grandmaster Barnaby

Barnaby is a significantly stronger opponent than any of the prior ones. He attacks very quickly and does a lot of damage, so if you are trying to win against him be sure to counter his attacks at all times with perfect block. To defeat him you will want to try to perform combos to wear down his defenses, instead of just perfect block and countering as the fight will go on for ages if he doesn’t defeat you first.

If you don’t care about winning the fight itself you are can immediately surrender, even if he hasn’t hit you once. This will fail the objective, but you can still complete the task with the dialogue that happens after.

Regardless of whether you win or lose, you want to choose the following dialogue options for the best outcome: “I can stay for a while.” > “Mead, you say?” and some time will pass while Henry chats with Barnaby. If you choose the other options, it will end the task immediately and you won’t have a chance for the next dialogue.

In Barnaby’s house, you can have a conversation with him about why he is in the woods away from town. For the best outcome don’t choose the options related to leaving, as this will end the conversation immediately.

When the option appears, choose “You’re not here voluntarily, are you?” to press him on being alone in the woods.

You will then have three options of speech check to convince him to explain more. The Unarmed and Persuasion checks have a higher required level for success, so if your skills are all around level 15 your best option is to go with Impression as it has the lowest requirement.

After this you can respond to him how you like in conversation, if you respond positively it will raise your reputation with him, but if you respond negatively it will lower. After this you will complete the task, earning the  Henry the Bruiser trophy/achievement.
