Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 The Spark Walkthrough

February 5, 2025 by Gage 11 Comments

The Spark is a side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Spark side mission.

  • Starting Location: Kuttenberg Region
  • Quest Giver: Messenger of the Guild
  • Requirement: Complete Main Quest 17: Via Argentum and Task The Thieves’ Code
  • Reward: 150 x Groschen (if you side with Chenyek), 60 x Groschen (if you side with Knuckles), Missable Trophy/Achievement: trophy Remember, Remember…
  • Quest Type: Side Quest
  • Questline: Feast for the Poor > (Civic Duty) > The Thieves’ Code > (Beyond the Grave > The German’s Treasure) > The Spark
  • Quest Description: The Guild is planning its greatest diversion mission yet, I can’t miss it.

Objectives:

  1. Stop by the Hole in the Wall for a new assignment
  2. Listen to Knuckles’ proposal (Optional)
  3. Kill Chenyek! (Optional)
  4. Find out from Eldris where to get some black powder
  5. Get a barrel of black powder
  6. Bring the barrel to the guildsmen near the mine
  7. Place the powder barrel inside the adit
  8. Escape the mine!
  9. Tell the folks at the Hole in the Wall, what happened

Starting Location: The Spark

To start this quest, you first need to complete two others in the Kuttenberg region: Main Quest 17: Via Argentum and Task The Thieves’ Code. Once those are both finished, you must wait at least three in-game days from finishing whichever was completed second. You can then encounter Messenger of the Guild as a random event while fast traveling. Traveling from Kuttenberg City to the cart to Trosky should cause the encounter Errand Boy to appear near Suchdol. Stop and speak with them to start the quest.

NOTE: The Spark & Civic Duty are mutually exclusive. Doing one task voids the other. For the sake of completion and trophies/achievements we recommend doing The Spark and skipping Civity Duty entirely. It doesn’t interfere with the trophy for completing most of the game’s content.

Stop by the Hole in the Wall for a new assignment

After receiving the quest from the messenger, head back to the Hole in the Wall in Kuttenberg City and speak with Chenyek for more work.

Listen to Knuckles’ proposal (Optional)

Like the prior schemes, Knuckles has a new proposal for you. This time, he proposes killing Chenyek because he doesn’t believe he is good for the guild.

Kill Chenyek! (Optional)

Killing Chenyek results in a lesser reward so it isn’t recommended, but doesn’t stop you from finishing the quest as a whole. If you want to kill him you likely need to do it at the tavern as he doesn’t leave and also seemingly doesn’t sleep. At night he will typically stand in the side room of the tavern, which makes for an easy stealth kill. Knuckles will sometimes also stand in that room though, and will alert the guards if you kill Chenyek in front of him, even though he’s asked you to do it.

Find out from Eldris where to get some black powder

Chenyek suggests you speak with Eldris the gunmaker about black powder. He is located in the shop directly south of the tavern.

Tell him you’re looking for black powder and then you have the option of three skill checks you can pass. The Intimidation skill check is easiest, but any option works for getting the information.

Get a barrel of black powder

He tells you he doesn’t have any, but gives you information on his rival that you can “obtain” a barrel from. You need to head to the marked area near Bohunowitz to find it.

From the town follow the path north, then at the river you should see some men standing by a cart.

Speak with Whisker at the front. You will then have the option to pass a speech check, or offer to haggle and buy the barrel of powder from him.

Whichever option you choose, interact with the chest on the ground and loot the Black powder keg item.

Bring the barrel to the guildsmen near the mine

You can then head to the mine southwest of Grund. This is the same location you were at for Via Argentum.

Go to the building just south of the main road and speak with Goliath, who is waiting with other guild members.

After Goliath tells you the plan, you have the option of waiting with them for nightfall, or coming back later.

Place the powder barrel inside the adit

After Goliath explains your role, follow him over to the mine entrance.

If you want to earn the trophy/achievement trophy Remember, Remember… you should kill Goliath while he is standing in front of the entrance. This will instantly fail the quest, but then you can walk back over to the pot where the guild was sitting before and there will now be the option to “Throw the barrel into the fire.” Doing so results in a game over, awarding the trophy.

You can then reload the most recent save, and this time head inside and follow the linear path inside the mine until you reach the crossroad with the wheelbarrow, then take the path leading to the right.

When you reach the platforms drop down to the lowest floor, where you can find the beam with the scarf hung on it. Interact with the ground to place the barrel.

Escape the mine!

Now climb up the ladders you just came down, then take the left path and retrace your steps back out of the mine. You have about two minutes to make it out. When you wake up after being knocked out you will be stopped by guards, and need to pass a skill check or fight them. Passing the Intimidation skill check is the easiest to avoid the fight, the Impression one will be nearly impossible to succeed at due to how dirty you have become after the mine explosion.

Tell the folks at the Hole in the Wall, what happened

With the mine exploded you can now return to the tavern to speak with either Chenyek or Knuckles to complete the quest.

This finishes The Spark side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Strange design choice to activate this quest on the opposite side of the map rather than starting from Hole in the Wall.

Can confirm 3-day wait after Main Quest 17 activates the random encounter.

For those having a hard time triggering this random encounter called errand boy.

You must have thieves guild quest done but you must also have 17 done. Now after 17 is when you wait the 2 to 3 days.

I went from devils den down to Suchdol and it triggered immediately.

So I don’t think it matters too much where to fast travel, but rather the waiting 2 to 3 days after completing main quest 17 Via Argentum.

    Happy Hunting!

This one is MISSABLE. If you recruit Goliath for Ransom quest and he dies there during fight it will lock out this quest as Chenyek will say it doesn’t have sense without Goliath.

A word of advice – carry an extra torch. Mine disappeared and I had to find my way out in complete darkness with a timer ticking. Luckily I had some Nighthawk to alleviate the situation.

Waiting for the tournament does not count towards the 72h timer.

No, the trophy is not for completing ALL quests rather MOST of them, I think like 90%. You can afford to miss or fail a few

Oddly the messenger came to me during the main quest Exodus. When Henry escaped the massacre he stood in the middle of the main road beyond the barn.
