Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 The Thunderstone Walkthrough

February 10, 2025 by Gage 10 Comments

The Thunderstone is a side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Thunderstone side mission.

  • Starting Location: Kuttenberg Region > Grund
  • Quest Giver: Kona
  • Requirement: Complete Main Quest 14: Speak of the Devil
  • Reward: 150 x Groschen OR Unarmed XP (if you return the stone to Thomlin), Alchemy XP, discount at Grund Horse Trader, possible 100 x Groschen (if you give the stone to Kona)
  • Quest Type: Side Quest
  • Questline: The Thunderstone > (Primum Nil Nocere)
  • Quest Description: Kona, who lives over in Grund, needs a thunderstone so she can draw on its magical power to help her with her troubles. She asked me to help her get one.

Objectives:

  1. Get a thunderstone
  2. Defeat Thomlin of Horschan
  3. Collect your reward from Thomlin
  4. Find out what Peter and Hensel know about the thunderstone
  5. Find the military encampment
  6. Free Hensel
  7. Talk to Hensel
  8. Ask Mlada about the thunderstone
  9. Give Kona the thunderstone (Optional) / Return the thunderstone to Thomlin (Optional) / Keep the thunderstone (Optional)

Starting Location: The Thunderstone

To start this quest, speak with Kona who is located in the village of Grund.

Get a thunderstone

Kona wants your help obtaining a thunderstone, which has various mystical properties about it. The suggested method is to challenge Thomlin of Horschan to a fight in which you will win it as the wager. It is possible to steal it from him too, though Kona doesn’t want this to occur as she thinks it will be bad luck.

Defeat Thomlin of Horschan

Head to the nearby village of Horschan where you can speak with him and ask him about the thunderstone.

He doesn’t actually want to give it up. You can try pickpocketing the “thunderstone” from him, but if you remember Kona’s description this isn’t a real one (it doesn’t have a hole in the middle).

To fight Thomlin, you’ll need to either pass one of three Hard speech checks, or if you’ve already completed the task Fight Dirty you can use that as leverage to get him to fight you.

Whichever way you convince him, meet him over near the pen. You’ll also need to pay him 500 Groschen upfront before the fight. Thomlin isn’t too strong, if you’ve already completed Fight Dirty then he shouldn’t give you any more trouble than the other fighters did.

Collect your reward from Thomlin

After the fight, speak with Thomlin again to collect your reward. He’ll confess that he doesn’t have the thunderstone anymore and gives you info on who he thinks stole it from him.

Find out what Peter and Hensel know about the thunderstone

He’ll tell you about Peter and Hensel, who are located in the western town of Raborsch.

Speak to Peter and you will determine that he has also lost the stone, and Hensel is currently being held captive by some pillagers that they wanted to deal with.

Find the military encampment

Peter gives you info about a military encampment nearby where Hensel is being held, and asks you to rescue him if possible. There is a large search area, but it is possible to run into the bands earlier if you have explored, which is located in the building along the stream.

The soldiers will attack you as soon as they spot you, so you can’t try to reason with them to get Hensel out. If you want to try stealthy or just to deal with them more easily, it is recommended to wait until nighttime and you can take out a number of them while they are sleeping. Even if you do accidentally alert them, all the ones that were sleeping will get up and attack you unarmed, making it a pretty easy fight with only 3 – 4 armed soldiers. Make sure to loot the camp after as most of the soldiers have pretty high value items.

Free Hensel

Hensel is located at the back of the camp in the wooden hut. Go behind him to untie him.

Talk to Hensel

After he is untied, speak with Hensel after he runs back to Raborsch.

Ask Mlada about the thunderstone

Hensel doesn’t have the thunderstone either and tells you that it was sold to Mlada in Suchdol. Head there and speak with her.

If you offer to help her husband Peter, this automatically starts the task Primum Nil Nocere. You can also just pickpocket the thunderstone from Mlada if you don’t care about going through the trouble of dealing with Peter, but for completion’s sake, you should finish the task regardless.

Give Kona the thunderstone (Optional) / Return the thunderstone to Thomlin (Optional) / Keep the thunderstone (Optional)

Now that you have obtained the thunderstone, you have three possible options for what to do with it: Give it to Kona, return it to Thomlin, or keep it for yourself.

  • If you want to keep it for yourself for some reason, you can tell either Kona or Thomlin that you are keeping it, which will end the quest immediately with no further reward.
  • If you return it to Thomlin, you can either take 150 x Groschen or his offer to teach you something that awards Unarmed XP.
  • If you give the stone to Kona, you receive some Alchemy XP, a discount at the Grund Horse Trader, and a possible 100 Groschen if you decide to take her money when offered.

This finishes The Thunderstone side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

The stone appears to give a +10% buff to stamina regen, +5% to stamina regen for blocks and attacks, and -10% stamina consumption, if I have understood the buff in the xml correctly. So it might be worth keeping.

Where did you find this information?

Game files, I responded to a reddit thread about it as well, went into some detail. But to summarize, in the tables pak file, which you can open with winrar, if you go into the rpg folder, and then open buff.xml, you can search for the thunderstone buff. The params state:
      srg*1.1 (srg = stamina regen)
srb*1.05 (srb = stamina regen block)
sra*1.05 (sra = stamina regen attack)
      sco*0.9 (sco = stamina consumption)

Those meanings are based on what those abbreviations meant in the first game, which it seems reasonable to assume would be the same in this one.

Side note, I hope you get an alert about this or something Dave, cause the reply button only seems to exist for the parent post.

Her house is the southern most one in Suchdol.

This guide is slightly inaccurate. You can “reason” with the mercenaries. With a (Hard) domination check, you can lie and persuade Andrew to stop pillaging and free Hensel.

someone in rededit tell, you can give to both of them, by giving one and then steal it back, and then give to another one, and then steal it again for you.
