Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Thou art but dust… Walkthrough

February 3, 2025 by Gage 1 Comment

Thou art but dust… is a side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Thou art but dust… side mission.

  • Starting Location: Kuttenberg Region > Sedletz Monastery
  • Quest Giver: Brother Morticius
  • Requirement: Complete Main Quest 14: Speak of the Devil
  • Reward: Craftsmanship XP (if you speak to the gravedigger at the end of the quest)
  • Quest Type: Side Quest
  • Quest Description: Morticius, an old and blind caretaker of the Sedletz ossuary, asked me to tidy up the long-neglected local chapel.

Objectives:

  1. Collect the bones
  2. Build a pyramid of skulls (0/32)
  3. Build a pyramid of cracked skulls (0/32)
  4. Build a pyramid from thigh bones (0/272)
  5. Find a way out of the underground crypt
  6. Arrange the bones into three piles
  7. Find Brother Morticius
  8. Ask the gravedigger about brother Morticius/Ask other monks about brother Morticius

Starting Location: Thou art but dust…

To start this quest, speak to Brother Morticius at the Sedletz Monastery.

Collect the bones

Morticius wants you to help collect the bones and clean up the chapel. Thankfully you do not need to pick up individual bones in this cleanup, you are grabbing them in groups from around the chapel. Starting from the left of the front stairwell on the main chapel floor and going clockwise:

Interact with the pile at the base of the pillar to sweep them up.

Interact with the two shelves in the opposite corner to collect all of the bones in your inventory.

Pick up the two piles of skulls in front of the next two pillars.

In the northeast corner, pick up the two piles of skulls on the floor and the bones from the shelf, then sweep the pile beside the pillar.

Clockwise in the next corner, pick up the bones from the two shelves, then sweep the bones on the floor to the right.

Then in the final corner, there are three more piles of skulls, one more shelf, and a spot near the stairs you can sweep.

This won’t be all the bones yet, but you can start arranging them in the pillars to get them out of your inventory.

Build a pyramid of skulls (0/32)

In the northeast corner is the pile for the normal skulls, you should currently have 28 to place there.

Build a pyramid of cracked skulls (0/32)

The pyramid in the southeast corner is for the cracked skulls, you should currently have 26 to place there.

Build a pyramid from thigh bones (0/272)

The pyramid closest to the main door is for the thigh bones, you should currently have 239 to place in there.

Now for the remaining bones, interact with the trapdoor in the middle of the room. This will cause you to fall into it.

Find a way out of the underground crypt

You need to find your way out of the crypt and pick up some bones along the way. Go into the large east room where there are two piles of bones to pick up.

Now go into the large room to the south where there are two more piles, one directly left of the door and then one farther down on the left. Note the door at the far end which is how you get out of the crypt.

Finally, go to the door to the west where there is one more small room with one more pile of bones.

You can then head through the previously mentioned door at the end of the long room and down the long tunnel. This leads out a door southeast of the chapel.

Arrange the bones into three piles

You can now go back to the chapel and place the rest of the bones in the piles. If you picked up everything in the crypt you will have some extra bones, but these should be removed from your inventory automatically once you build the pyramids.

Find Brother Morticius

You can now go back outside to look for Brother Morticius.

Ask the gravedigger about brother Morticius / Ask other monks about brother Morticius

You can then go speak with either the gravedigger outside, or the monk who is near the entrance to the graveyard. Whichever you choose you will then complete the quest.

This finishes Thou art but dust… side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

You can actually find Morticius afterwards( I came up with him at the inn in Miskowitz, tossing beer with the bailiff). It turned out that he’s the grandson of the real Morticius, and just playing a prank on you.
