Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 In Vino Veritas Walkthrough

February 11, 2025 by Gage 5 Comments

In Vino Veritas is a side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the In Vino Veritas side mission.

  • Starting Location: Kuttenberg Region > Kuttenberg City
  • Quest Giver: Casper Rudolf
  • Requirement: Complete Main Quest 14: Speak of the Devil
  • Reward: 205 x Groschen, Life in the Tavern IV, 425 x Groschen (if you bring Casper 5 seedlings)
  • Quest Type: Side Quest
  • Questline: In Vino Veritas > (Under the Straw Hat)
  • Quest Description: Kuttenberg burgher Casper Rudolf decided on a risky undertaking. Hoping to capitalise on the wine-growing revival under Charles IV, he bought some land on the hillside below St Barbara’s Cathedral and planted a vineyard there. It soon become clear, though, that his wine couldn’t complete with the wine made by the Sedletz Monastery. Casper suspects that the monks’ wine-making process has some secret, and my task is to find out what it is.

Objectives:

  1. Study Casper’s book on wine (Optional)
  2. Make an impression on Havel the tavern keeper
  3. Tell Casper about the results of your investigation
  4. Get hired at the vineyard (Optional)
  5. Find the monastery’s secret
  6. Get seedlings for Casper (0/5) (Optional)
  7. Take the monastery’s secret to Casper

Starting Location: In Vino Veritas

To start this quest, speak with Casper Rudolf who is located just north of the fountain in Kuttenberg City and agree to help him.

Study Casper’s book on wine (Optional)

To have an easier time dealing with Havel, you should complete the optional objective to study Casper’s book. To obtain it, you need to enter the garden and speak with Adleta.

There are two ways to get into the garden: Going through the main entrance and passing one of the two speech checks with Hugo who is guarding the entrance, or climbing the guard tower and walking along the wall, then going down the other guard tower which puts you in the back side of the garden so you can avoid talking to Hugo.

Once you’re inside, speak with Adleta.

She won’t give up the book right away, so you’ll need to convince her. You can pass a Persuasion speech check immediately, or offer to become her friend.

You’ll then have to offer to bring her a gift, and she suggests something to add to her garland as it doesn’t match her dress. Pick at least 5 x Marigold from within the garden, and turn them in to her in exchange for Sir Bushek’s vintner wisdom. Make sure to read the book from your inventory after.

Make an impression on Havel the tavern keeper

Next, you’ll need to make an impression on Havel, who runs the Emperor Charles Tavern in the north part of the city.

Agree to sit with him, then you’ll have to go through a wine tasting. You will have a series of drinking skill checks, though these only raise or lower your rep with him. The important answers are determined by where you say you are from and what he asks after.

For a guaranteed set of responses, select: Germany > Steinberger > It’s missing ginger. Passing the other drinking skill chests doesn’t matter if you answered the rest of these correctly.

Tell Casper about the results of your investigation

Now with the information learned from Havel, head back to the stall and tell Casper. You do have the opportunity to give him back the book now as well, but it’s not required. If you had already been in the vineyard on your own and found the “secret” you would just give it to him immediately and skip the rest of the quest objectives.

Get hired at the vineyard (Optional)

The vineyard is located directly north of Kuttenberg, and you have the option of either sneaking in, or trying to get hired so that you can be in there without sneaking. If you want to go the hired-hand route, speak with the recruiter at the south gate.

Doing this automatically starts the task Under the Straw Hat, though completing this task isn’t required at all for completing the rest of this quest, but this is the only way to start this task so for completion you should start it and complete it here.

The best place to complete the next two objectives during the task is the day after being hired when you are supposed to be working, as it stops the central building from being considered a private area.

Find the monastery’s secret

To find the monastery’s secret, you need to go into the central building (this is considered private unless you have been hired to work at the vineyard) and then go through the door in the back of the kitchen.

There is a Medium locked door here, and in that room a crate where you can loot the item Sulfer wicks.

Get seedlings for Casper (0/5) (Optional)

To find the seedlings, you need to go through the central building into the closed-off yard (or pick the Very Hard locked doors leading into it). Be careful as this area is considered trespassing and the guards will immediately be after you if you’re seen. In the yard there are two gardens, with the one on the right having the seedlings. Steal at least 5 of these to return to Casper.

Take the monastery’s secret to Casper

With all the items obtained, you can head back to Casper and turn them in to complete the quest.

This finishes In Vino Veritas side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

“Make an impression on Havel the tavern keeper”.. I have no option to taste the wine. He just refuses to continue the dialog somehow. Don’t know what I did wrong. Earlier I pickpocketed the book from Adleta, but I don’t think that could be the reason.

Make sure your charisma is at least 18 and then he will talk to you.

When doing chores for “Under the Straw Hat” if you have worked diligently through the day the administrator will send you to fetch him wine from the said cellar. The area is freely accessible and the sulfur wicks are easy to pick.

All guides seem to say the German route is the solution but it also works with Italy – Vin santo.

You get a new objective if you have completed the straw task first, it’ll give you the ‘bring jerome wine from the basement’ so in that case you don’t need to lockpick the door 🙂
