Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Warding Off Evil Walkthrough

February 11, 2025 by Gage 6 Comments

Warding Off Evil is a side task in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Warding Off Evil side task.

  • Starting Location: Kuttenberg Region > Kutternberg City > The Emperor Charles Tavern
  • Quest Giver: Johann Parler
  • Requirement: Complete Main Quest 14: Speak of the Devil
  • Reward: 150 x Groschen
  • Quest Type: Task
  • Quest Description: Builder Johann Parler is working on the Church of Saint Barbara, and he wants to protect the building from fire and lightning with a bit of magic. He couldn’t get his hands on a magical talisman or thunderstone anywhere, so he wants me to steal three protective talismans from Kuttenberg burghers, to melt them down, and forge a protective axe out of them to get rid of any evidence.

Objectives:

  1. Steal the nail from the rafter
  2. Steal the horseshoe hanging above the door
  3. Steal the coin from the building’s foundation
  4. Forge a protective axe
  5. Bring the axe to Johann Parler

Starting Location: Warding Off Evil

To start this task, speak with Johann Parler who is typically located on the second floor of the Emperor Charles Tavern in Kutternberg City.

Steal the nail from the rafter

For the nail, head to the buildings north of the tavern where there are a series of houses. The second house in you will need to go up the stairs on the side, then through the Very Easy locked door at the top.

Climb the ladder inside to the top floor.

Then on a table, you can pick up the Holy nail item.

Steal the horseshoe hanging above the door

For the horseshoe, head to the building with the tailor just south of the fountain.

Head into the first door on the building (not into the shop).

Then through the doorway immediately left and turn around. Above the door, you can steal the Found horseshoe.

Steal the coin from the building’s foundation

Finally for the coin, head to the Hangman’s Halter Tavern.

Go inside then through the first wooden door on the right to the basement.

Turn right and interact with the exposed bricks on the far wall to pull them out. You can then interact with the hole to steal the Commemorative coin.

Forge a protective axe

You can then go to any blacksmith station to forge the Protective axe. This is a specific axe made using the items you stole.

Bring the axe to Johann Parler

With the axe forged, you can take it back to Johann at the tavern to complete the task.

This finishes Warding Off Evil side task in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Apparently you can side step the quest if you kept the Thunderstone, and can hand it in for the same reward without having to do the rest of it.

Can confirm I had the option to turn in the Thundertone instead. Totally not worth giving up a permanent buff for a few groschen and a skill trainer though

I’m going to try and hand over the fake thunder stone when I get a chance…I will try and report back.

So I tried to give Johann the fake one and it wouldn’t show up as an option to hand over. However, I decided to try and give him the real one and then pickpocket it back( which I why I still have the original in the first place lol) and he somehow has 2 thunder stones in his inventory now. Stole one back and let him keep the other one. I guess I was feeling generous.

Decided to keep both Thunderstones as well as the fake. Wasn’t feeling generous at all.

      Bad Henry!

I can’t talk to Johann Parler and going into his room just has me marked as trespassing and everyone starts getting upset.
