Nioh 2 – How to Get Onmyo Magic & Ninja Proficiency Skill Points

March 11, 2020 by PowerPyx Leave a Comment

Initially when you start out in Nioh 2 you won’t have any skill points for Onmyo Magic and Ninja Proficiency.

In order to unlock Magic and Ninja Skills you need to do the following:

  • Get Onmyo Mage’s Locks & Use them from Inventory – they are found as item pickups in fixed locations. On the world map you can click :x: and :r1: on a mission to see how many there are and how many you’ve found. Later they are also obtained from Dojo Missions.
  • Get Ninja’s Locks & Use them from Inventory – they are found as item pickups in fixed locations. On the world map you can click :x: and :r1: on a mission to see how many there are and how many you’ve found. Later they are also obtained from Dojo Missions.
  • Once you have used your first Ninja Locks / Omnymo Mage Locks, press Touchpad > Learn Skills and choose any Skill. Then head to a Shrine and select “Ready Jutsu”. Pick your Ninja and Magic Skill and assign it to to a button shortcut. Now use the magic on enemies to increase the proficiency level. Each proficiency level gives you +1 Skill Point for that skill category. So using Magic Skills gives only points for the Magic category and using Ninja Skills only gives Ninja skill points. To see the progress bar to the next proficiency level, press Touchpad > Status > :r1: .

How to increase Magic & Ninja Proficiency:

  • You must use Skills to increase your proficiency. Attack skills tend to give more proficiency than defensive ones. Every single hit counts. The higher your level and that of enemies, the more proficiency you earn (meaning it goes quicker the further you get in the game). In the beginning you can use simple skills like the Magic “Fire Talisman”, each hit gives you proficiency. Do this on enemies near a shrine and repeat. That said, passive skills such as Steel or Rejuvenation Talisman also add to your proficiency but not as much. For Ninja use Poison Blister-Beetle Powder gives a lot of proficiency when thrown at groups of enemies. For Magic it’s best to use elemental attack skills.

How to Unlock new Skills:

  • Some Skills are locked until you do Dojo Missions. These Dojo Missions become available as you advance in the story and require a certain amount of proficiency. Remember to use these skills frequently to increase proficiency, and each proficiency level gives a Skill Point.

How to ready more Magic & Jutsus:

  • In order to carry more spells you must put attribute points into Dexterity (Ninja) / Magic (Onmyo Magic). There are also passive skills that give you more slots.

That’s all there is to know about leveling up your Ninja and Magic skills.
