Nioh 2 Japanese Heart, Yokai Smarts Walkthrough

Japanese Heart, Yokai Smarts is the 49th side mission in Nioh 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all areas of Japanese Heart, Yokai Smarts Side Quest.

Requirement: Unlock the Interim, Speak with Hachisuka Koroku in the Interim (must play ‘The Shiftling’s Wise Judgement’ sub mission and talk to him there to beat the quest with him. Repeat the same quest also by recruiting the other guy “Shibata Katsuie” at the start to unlock him too)
Reward: Kawanami Clan Plated Headband, Kawanami Clan Gauntlets, Kawanami Clan Greaves

Unlock Requirement – Speak with Hachisuka Koroku in the Interim

How to unlock Hachisuka Koroku in Interim:

1. Play sub mission The Shiftling’s Wise Judgement. At the start of that mission you can either recruit Hachisuka Koroku (guy that looks like Aquaman) or Shibata Katsuie (guy in thick armor with hatchets). For this requirement you must accept Hachisuka Koroku to your team. Then he follows you through the mission and you must fight Shibata Katsuie at the end. It’s important you finish the mission! If you were to recruit Shibata you’d have to defeat Hachisuka at the end, which you don’t want.
2. Finish the story and you’ll have unlocked the Interim. Then on the world map you can click the gray icon in the bottom left corner to visit the Interim. Hachisuka Koroku should now be there. Exhaust all dialogues with him to unlock the Japanese Heart, Yokai Smarts mission.
3. If Hachisuka isn’t there yet, exhaust the dialogues with everyone in the Interim and finish all their side quests too (talking to people in Interim unlocks some ‘hidden’ side quests). After all open side quests are completed visit the interim again to check for Hachisuka.

Side Note: Repeat The Shiftling’s Wise Judgement also by recruiting the other guy “Shibata Katsuie” at the start to unlock him in the Interim too. You need him to play Sub Mission Restless Spirits.

Hachisuka Koroku Boss Fight

This is another mission consisting of only a single boss encounter. This time, you have to face Hachisuka Koroku again.

A super easy no-skill-required method is to walk up the hill on the left, let him run after you and drop down. He will drop down after you, and while he’s in mid-air you can land a strong hit. Run up the hill again and repeat, he won’t even have a chance to attack you once. The AI is easily exploited like this because it always tries to follow you and drops down the hill after you.
