There are 22 Legendary Animal Locations in Crimson Desert. Finding and dealing with all Legendary Animals is needed for the “Hazy Tales” exploration Challenge and is one of the requirements for the Expert Explorer trophy & achievement. Certain Legendary Animals such as the three horses and some of the hunted animals can also be used as mounts once dealt with.
Dealing with the Legendary Animals has different uses depending on the type:
- Horses are tamed and then used as mounts like other horses, but have the best potential stats in the game.
- Fish can either be sold (to a Fisherman for a very high price), given to a Cat to instantly reach 100 trust, or donated for large amounts of camp provisions.
- Hunted animals each give a reward of a furniture or equipable item, and three of them give items that can be turned in at one of the Witches to allow them to be used as mounts in place of a horse.
Challenges Overview:
Animals are listed in the order that they appear in the Legendary Animals (Hazy Tales) section of the Challenge Menu. Note that two other animals are included in the Legendary Animals section of the Knowledge menu, but those two are counted under the New Power challenges for trophy/achievement requirements and don’t count toward the Legendary Animals challenge.

Legendary Animal #4: Golden Tench
Located in Hernand, the Golden Tench swims in the river around Sunset Valley. You should be able to spot it due to its bright color in the water, then can swim in the water and grab it by hand.
Legendary Animal #5: Golden Carp
Located in Pailune, in the pond directly east of Snowgrass Hearth. You should be able to spot it due to its bright color in the water, then can swim in the water and grab it by hand.
Legendary Animal #6: Coelacanth
Located in Delesyia, in the pond southwest of Sanctum of Devotion. This one is harder to spot than the others as it is closer to green in color. You can more easily spot it by boosting yourself in the air with Force Palm and gliding above the pond while looking straight down, then can swim in the water and grab it by hand.
Legendary Animal #7: Golden Coelacanth
Located in Crimson Desert, in the pond west above Mistshard Cave. You should be able to spot it due to its bright color in the water, then can swim in the water and grab it by hand.
Legendary Animal #8: Clockwork Fish
Located in Crimson Desert, this is in the “pond” (shown blue on the map, but it’s actually full of quicksand) northeast of Crimson Mountains Fortress. Unlike the other fish you can’t directly see this one because it is in quicksand, but you can still grab it in the same way. The best way to do this is to glide onto the rock in the middle of the quicksand, then aim
your lantern around until you see the “???” prompt where the fish is located. Then run toward it and grab the fish, then continue to exit the quicksand before you are sucked in.
Legendary Animal #9: Silver Fang
Located in Hernand, at Howling Hollow. For the wolf to appear you first need to defeat Black Fang. It should then appear within the Howling Hallow area in the cave, easily spotted with the elite icon on the minimap along with a bunch of other wolves. If it’s not there you can try searching around the area, or teleport away and come back.
Rewards: Fang of Silver Fang (turn in at a Witch to obtain mount), Silver Fang Helm

Legendary Animal #18: Red River Hog
Located in Crimson Desert, in the area around the RED RIVER map text. It can be found swimming around in the river itself, or on either side walking around with a group of smaller hogs.
Rewards: Chalice of Devouring (furniture)
Legendary Animal #19: White Lion
Located in Crimson Desert, on the side of the road northeast of Varnia Gate.
Reward: White Lion Necklace
Legendary Animal #20: Black Lion
Before being able to deal with the Black Lion, you first need to complete the majority of the Faction Quests in Hernand, the same as is required to be able to collect the Constellations. After completing the Constellation quest at Solastone, you should then have the quest Legendary Hunter appear in front of Lioncrest Manor with a man standing outside the fence.
After completing the two quests you’ll receive the quest Dark Catastrophy, which points you directly to the location of the Black Lion in northern Demeniss along THE CRIMSON WALL.
You will need to use your lantern to point yourself toward a spot with a deer on the ground and examine it. This will then cause the Black Lion and a bunch of lionesses to run in and attack you. Defeat it like the other animals and skin it to claim the reward. You can then also return to the Legendary Hunter to complete the quest.
Reward: Black Lion Earring
Legendary Animal #21: White Tiger
Located in Crimson Desert, in the forest directly southeast of Serpenthead Valley.
Reward: Tigerfang Ring
Legendary Animal #22: Phoenix
Located in Crimson Desert, in the general area around Merchant’s Resting Place, south of the TRADER’S EXPANSE map text. The Phoenix is unique from the other animals as it constantly flies around, surrounded by a group of smaller birds. An easy way to spot it is to fast travel to the Abyss Nexus near the Merchant’s Resting Place Cresset, then climb up the pillar. Switch to first person then continually look around the area to try and spot the group of birds. The Phoenix flies in a loop going north on the east side of the Abyss Nexus, then south on the west side. When you spot it get close and use Focused Shot to mark it and shoot charged arrows at it.
Rewards: Nightmare Burner (furniture)
For all other collectible types refer to Crimson Desert Challenge Guide.

The Coelacanth didn’t count as on of the 5 legendary fish in The Underwater Ecosystem challenge. Do you have happen to know of this is a big or if there is a 5th legendary fish somewhere?
