Crimson Desert How To Upgrade Weapons & Armor

In Crimson Desert, you can upgrade your equipment at the blacksmith: Weapons, Armor Pieces, and Jewelry can all be upgraded. The game calls this “Refinement”. There are 10 Refinement levels for each item.

Go to the blacksmith in the middle of Hernand town (the starting town). There you can upgrade your gear.

It doesn’t cost any money, just the required materials.

You can view the Refinement Levels and required materials by clicking “Inspect” in the inventory and then clicking “Refinement Information”. For all crafting materials see Crimson Desert Upgrade Crafting Material Locations.

Upgrading your gear is very important to stand a chance against bosses, so it’s well worth spending a few hours early on to upgrade everything as much as possible. Plate Armor can be bought from the vendor directly in front of the blacksmith and it’s actually one of the better armors in the game. Plate Armor provides better defense than Leather/Soft Armor, and since there’s no equipment weight it doesn’t slow you down. The wooden starting shield is decent too and easy to upgrade by felling a bunch of trees with the axe.

• Plate Armor & Weapons require ores (Iron Ore, Copper Ore etc). This requires the Pickaxe and you must find ore deposits on mountains walls and hit them with the Pickaxe, or alternatively use Force Palm to break the ore. You can buy the Pickaxe from the Provisioner’s Shop (the house across from the blacksmith).
• Wooden Shields require Wood. This requires using an axe to fell trees. You can buy the axe from the Provisioner’s Shop (the house across from the blacksmith).
• Leather Armor and Jewelry requires Hides and Bones from hunting animals. Defeat animals in the woods and skin them.
• Soft clothes require Cloth Pieces and Fleece. You can buy this from the Provisoner’s Shop, the house across from the blacksmith, and you also get it as loot from bandits and other enemies.
